My buddies bought their Ranger Z518's several years before I thought about a new boat. I rode in with them on lakes that were CA controlled for CARB based motors. I really liked the speed, agility, and ability to park the 18" in my garage. In 2018 I purchased my 1st NEW 2019 Z518 and absolutely love it. Made the best choice for me.
Should have added...the dealership I purchased my boat through is the best Ranger, Nitro, and Triton dealership in CA. Angler's Marine in Anaheim, CA. They hooked me up with a great deal and made the buying experience painless.

bought an 82 champion 184 and it became my favorite of all others I have owned, got lucky and found my dream boat after a 5 yr. wait/search. pretty much hull/trailer/merc 200 xri. got to finish it out how I wanted it and outfitted with all the latest greatest stuff (well, 4 yrs. or so ago).
found out the 95 champion 202 was the fastest hull they made, it is now complete after engine upgrade.

Dealer support was big with me. Sartin Marine had Cadillacs and Corvettes so I went with them. I never kept one more than 2-3 yrs and I would sell them and start over.

Last boat was size, biggest hp longest boat I could fit in my 3rd car garage without twisting turning etc. 300 plus dollar a month boat storage will make you think like that

I had to have two boats....one to travel down dusty roads and go up in the bushes after bass...had to have another one to travel down rivers and hide in the bushes to shoot ducks....

On my 4th. boat I asked the owner of a boat fiberglass repair shop what boat brand did they work on the least. He said BassCat. Then I chose the one that I liked the lay out the best and still have it today, a 2004 Cougar. I have upgraded the trolling motor, graphs, and the big motor but the boat is still working just fine for me.

Budget and price. The cool part is I give about $31k for my current boat just before all the inflated covid numbers took effect. The last time I checked its value it was worth about $44k retail.
