HWV5 (Randy) and his wife Patti drove over from Lubbock to meet up with me and do a little early morning, beat-the-heat fishing. They come over this way to care for their elderly parents once a month and I offered for them to fish with me. We got on the water at 6am and found some fish right away. Most of them were porpoising Buffalo but we managed a couple white bass before Randy hooked into this 22 pound Buffalo. With not a whole lot of hookups or schooling white bass, we left that spot with 11 fish, 8 white bass and 3 Buffalo. We were hoping for a hybrid or 2 but didn’t find any. We scanned another area in 19ft of water and found a lot of bait so we stopped and fished the bait. We caught an occasional 10 inch white bass, but it wasn’t good enough to stay, so we moved to a drop off near the dam in 22 FOW. I scanned and again only found bait. There was a cool structure nearby that I wanted to show a Randy on the side imaging. It’s an old house foundation that sometimes will hold a fish or two. We drove near it and scanned it and the fish were lined up all over it almost like cattle feeding on a trough. I’ve heard it said that concrete (old road beds, bridges, etc) attracts algae, which attracts bait fish, which attracts white bass. I didn’t see any bait, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there, but I saw plenty of white bass stacked all over it. I caught a couple fish and noticed algae in their mouth. Hmmmmm….not sure what that meant. But I do know it means I’ll be checking the foundation more often. We fished the foundation for the last hour and a half and boated 40 fish there. Many of them were MAGS!! Randy caught a 17” and I caught this 16 1/2”. We kept a dozen or so fish for Randy to take home for his dad to enjoy and we threw the rest back. We caught all of the fish on the silver and chartreuse HEYbuds using Dennis’ sawtooth method. The craziest part was the foundation was in 10 foot of water. I didn’t think those fish would be that comfortable in that shallow warm water but we didn’t mind at all. It was such a great day on the water with some great folks that I met here on the TFF. Can’t wait to fish with them again! Thanks for coming Randy and Patti!!

Me and my son wear out the buffalo and carp tied up to big Daddy's on GV. I call them the golden tarpon, and silver tarpon as they are the closest fight to a tarpon using 6 lb test.

Good TFF meet up story and post. I caught this 16.75" mag on the white HEYbud on Wednesday at Tawakoni in 11 ft casting deeper and wide saw-tooth up the ledge.

That’s a beaut!! 11ft…it seems interesting the fish are holding up that shallow. I get it if they are chasing bait early in the am but not just hanging out there midday. I might need to start looking shallower.
I need to keep track of my PB for magnums and maybe a boat record too.

We had such an awesome time on Saturday fishing with Eric. I hope we get the opportunity to meet up again sometime. No one knows the thrill of hooking up on a big fish like another fish guy. We enjoyed swapping fish tales.
