Always been fascinated with surfing. Wish I did more of it growing up. Big wave surfing is crazy. Those guys are on another level.

The book I was talking about also has a large chunk devoted to rogue waves and tsunamis. Immensely interesting!

That’s awesome right there. Yin and Yang. The thrill of the rip curl and the quiet solitude of crappie fishing a deep brush pile.

I have surfed 15 foot waves on a day it got up to close to 20 ft in late spring at Point Mugu. They were steep and hollow. The left was only wave working as the waves grew and I was over my head anyway.
At 20’ only a few surfers were attempting to ride those. Missing a wave that large on a beach break is always dangerous.

All I know about surfing is when I was a kid I caught a wave at Virginia Beach on a Boogie Board and when I hit the beach I face planted. It looked like my face had been sandblasted... Dan

Those are a few of the ones I can remember off the top of my head that I have come across.

Can Mavericks and Waimea crank those out?

Supposedly there is no heavier waves in the world, like just the mass of the water in the wave, than what they're surfing at Mavericks.

Just out of curiosity since we're talking surfing, for those of you that follow this stuff, where are y'all on Kelly Slater? Is he the GOAT or is he just the highest-level hack that exists in pro surfing?

I mean, he's obviously bada** at what he does, but people seem to be polarized by him. Big waves and league surfing are obviously worlds apart, and I guess that feeds the crowd that thinks he's a hack.

Like I said, just curious.

Yes. Mavericks can.
