Pollo Loco does have that added thrill of risky authentic street food.
So far so good, but I see some of the potential land mines you have alluded.

I will go out of my way to find a Taco Casa.
If I’m on the road very early in the morning, it’s Jack in the box.
Taco Bueno has the best potato burrito.
Taco Cabana used to be good. No more
If I want something good, I will find a taqueria and eat good.

I debated including Cowboy Chicken as some locations have a drive thru and they have Spanish rice, pinto beans, and Mexican street corn on the menu….but no tacos or tortillas that I am aware.

Not to hijack the thread but you chicken fans might wanna try some of the Pollo Pullitas or Chick Pullitas locations. The names are a little different but they're the same family that owns them. There are several now.
Mesquite fire rotisserie chicken and ribs. Pulled chicken tacos and burritos. All the mexican trimmings. Pretty danged good

We have a new place by ridgemar mall called taco masters. Looks pretty good. Also a place in WS called jimboys tacos. They are a cali chain but look pretty good.

I'm afraid to Google 'Velvet Taco' on my work laptop. Never heard of an eatery with that name. I went in the door at Velvet Taco in Clovis, NM but that's as far as they would let me go without ID.

Taco Bell - #1 Fast Food on my radar - the BEST Hot Sauce available - Fire Sauce is the Champ !!!! Taco Cabana - Enjoy their Chicken Fajita Burrito the most and the Breakfast Taco's, regular tacos pass - again no Hot Sauce available. Taco Bueno - Best when you have a bunch of Taco Bell Fire Sauce Packets available to complete the flavor, otherwise they are bland. Rosas - too much black pepper used at the Murphy one... Pollo Regio - never been, always a Taco Bell available. Taco Casa - never been, always a Taco Bell available. Pollo Salsa - never been, always a Taco Bell available. El Pollo Loco - never been, always a Taco Bell available. Velvet Taco - No Value - overpriced. Fuzzy’s taco - No Value - overpriced. Taco Delite - bad experience, wrote them off.
