I spent 3 years testing various Monos & Fluoros (no braid) and concluded that Big Game is the best overall. I fish 10-12 lb test exclusively.

Top water is about the only thing I use mono for these days. I use Sunline Sniper fluoro on just about everything else. I don't like the stretch of mono when setting the hook.

Never use mono any more since there are way better lines out there to use. A copolymer line is inexpensive and way better than mono. I have been using big game 15 on all my set ups, about to put pline copolymer on 4-5 and possibly more. I still like the big game and 15 has always been the best overall # test for me, the copolymer is also 15#. the pline is good stuff, used it on a couple of reels in the past to try out and it works good. Which one? c21 1/4# spools. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/P-Line_C21_Copolymer_Fishing_Line/descpage-PC21.html

I am going with the copolymer mainly due to not getting to fish for a long time, big game will keep a memory and the pline won't. pline also casts a little easier/farther I think.

I'll have to try the C21. Pline CX, Pline Fluorclear, and Pline CXX are all great.

I'll have to try the C21. Pline CX, Pline Fluorclear, and Pline CXX are all great. we used nothing but cxx on our tarpon rods, 20# with 6' 100# bimini on shimano 7' xh/shimano gt reels (you can cast the gt and it has a good lever drag). landed 3 that went between 185 and 210 with most in the 85 to 150# range, they would chew thru the bimini before the cxx ever broke, awesome line.

I am one of the Old Schoolers who grew up on Big Game but when a buddy of mine John Tanner introduced me to McCoys Mean Green CoPolymer I have never looked back. It is every bit as strong as Big Game but has almost no memory especially in the colder weather months. I do use a lot of braid for my shallow power flipping, Swim Jig etc but have even gone back to McCoys on some of those techniques just because of the ease of casting, flipping and pitching.

That's basically what I did except I did try different braids also. I really like 10-12lb Big Game mono. But I might try the McCoys Mean Green CoPolymer for comparison. Less memory sounds good.

I use it all in different brands, late to the party with fluro except as leader. If I were to go to one main line for all fishing, salt and fresh, it would be P-Line Mono. Oh, and it takes more skill to use mono.

I gotta say, I totally get where you're coming from. I used to be all about that mono life too, never had a problem with it on lakes all across Texas. But lately, I've been hearing all this hype about braids and Fluro lines, so I decided to give them a go. Tried 'em all, different brands and all, but guess what? I'm sticking with good ol' reliable mono.

Big game is the best bang for you buck line, just caught a good sized shark at the coast on 25 lb test with a steel leader of course. Still have half a dozen or so freshwater combos with big game mono on them, topwaters, a few all around utility combos, one finesse, one cranking and my c-rig rod always has a mono leader.

That was 40 years ago and I still use McCoys but none of the others. McCoys mean green P Line CXX, Premium and Halo Seaguar Invizx Suffix 832 braid Those are all I need and they all work very well for me.
