what is this viney / rooty stuff in my zoysia grass? it's hard to pull up thru the zoysia roots; what will kill it since i'm too lazy to crawl around and yank it up, only to leave a root and grow back later ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2023/05/full-93089-183934-zweed.jpg)

Please help me Derek, I want a nice yard so badly. Iโve got orange spots taking over and itโs killing my yard. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2023/05/full-20339-183603-70207225293__14e075f6_2f28_4632_95c6_1d17383a85a8.jpeg) I think itโs some kind of fungus but not sure. Half my front yard is dead and I want to keep It from spreading. I'm not sure I would be overly concerned about that at this point. I would focus on getting your turf healthy then attack the issues. Healthy turf will handle and respond better to fungicides and herbicides. Get your fertilizing, mowing and watering in order. Those are the 3 main things. Looks like you have bermuda. I would be hammering it with 1lb of NPK every 4-5 weeks. That would be 7lbs of the product linked below per 1000sq feet. I would get it don't asap and watered in. Give that a good 2 weeks then start looking at your weed/fungus issues. Make on your Calander for every 4-5 weeks and repeat. Stay religious on that trough September and you'll see a difference. You have high weed pressure. We can get to that. Mowing, watering, fertilizing are your 3 keys right now. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Sta-Green/...UwwJEAQYASABEgK4K_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.dsThanks for the info, think Iโm going to head to Loweโs now and get a bag before the next round of rain comes in. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2023/05/full-22783-183941-26b3acb1_a942_461e_b3f2_cb2c6c0e91e1.png)

Derek should we be putting our fungus preventative every month now or is it a bit early? I have treated once early so far but that is all looking good but want to stay ahead of problems.

You don't necessarily need to go out monthly with how healthy your lawn is. I would get an app down now and you'll probably be good for a while. Depending if you have received any of the recent rains you probably have a lot of morning dew. Morning dew, the heat and humidity coming, equals very high disease pressure. https://www.greencastonline.com/tools/pestoutlooks.aspx

Depending if you have received any of the recent rains you probably have a lot of morning dew. Morning dew, the heat and humidity coming, equals very high disease pressure. https://www.greencastonline.com/tools/pestoutlooks.aspxWe`ve had some very heavy dews the past week or so (lots of a.m. fog) and I went ahead and put down some Propiconazole 2 days ago with some Bifen XTS. Hoping the Propiconazole will slow down my Tifway419 since I`m headed for Cloudcroft NM next week (LOL). No signs of any fungus, but my grass has really taken off since my last AS application (.6lb N / 1000). I can really tell the difference between .5 lb.N per K and .6 lb. N per K (20% more N) Hey Derek, Didn`t you say a while back that you were going to try putting down a monthly app of ES this year. If so, how's that coming? I`m going to put my 2nd app down after I get back into town from NM. It will be my 5th app since I started last year. I really feel like the addition of the ES and AS has improved the overall appearance and health of my lawn since I stared last year. Appreciate the help ![thumb thumb](/forums/images/graemlins/default/cup.gif)

Iโm doing the ES every 6 weeks this year. Seems to be doing well. With this heat and rain itโs breaking down good. Iโll get a soil test next spring and see where my Ph is. 2021 I was 7.8 and 2022 7.4. I didnโt test this year.

Just spent 2 hours pulling tiny hackberry trees out of my front yard. I got about 30 more hours to go doing it this way. I told my neighbor I would pay to have that dam*** tree cut down and hauled off but "they like the shade"
Any way to kill those hackberry sprouts?
I had one of the best St Augustine lawns in my neighborhood last year. This year looks horrible and I am embarrassed.

Love/hate with this yard 3 years of working on it and itโs finally coming together. Chitty soil and no shade but this year finally getting the Dallas grass under control and itโs filling in where I lost all the st Augustine Now I just need it to get denser ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2023/06/full-9268-188248-30d9a8c3_2cf1_42bf_b36c_073efbbf828e.jpeg)

Chitty soil and no shade but this year finally getting the Dallas grass under control and itโs filling in where I lost all the st Augustine Now I just need it to get denser That actually looks really good and it's denser than you think. You're getting scalp marks from the crown coming up. It's a given. Specially in lawns mowed once a week or so, you always have to raise your bed height to stay ahead of it as the season goes on. Personally I would do a height of cut reset. I would bottom the mower out and "scalp" it and get it as low as you can. Bag all those clippings. It will recover in 2 weeks. We are in optimal growth. Then mow often. At least twice a week if you can. Don't bag those clippings. Hammer it with cheap Lowes T13 fert every 4 weeks 4lbs per 1000 through Oct 1st. Water in every application and water in-between in this heat is key too. That looks to be about 1500 sqft? and mowing it is 15 minute job if that. Telling Bermuda that it can't grow up will trigger lateral growth. So mowing often is your friend. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Sta-Green/...agv_EAQYASABEgJcsvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Itโs about a 10 minute job Right now I have the height set to about 3โ and Iโve been mowing at least once a week. The flipping clippings. Pile up on the gravel drive way and my blower took a chit So Iโve just been living with it till I get another Iโll grab some of the fertilizer for sure. But to be honest Iโm really donโt want to scalp anything again. Every time I do it gets taken over by weedsโฆ.

But to be honest Iโm really donโt want to scalp anything again. Every time I do it gets taken over by weedsโฆ. I`ve been mowing mine at 1.5 inches with a rotary every 3 and sometimes 4 days. After being gone for 7 days last week, I raised the front to 2" and left the back at 1.5" Monday morning. It looked really good and green at that height but had lots of seed heads after 2 days, so I set both @ 1.5 " and mowed again today. Had a few spots that cut down to brown, but not too bad. It`ll be back to 100% green in less than a week. Derek is 100% correct about mowing at least twice a week and I think 2" would give you a better appearance than 3 inches. If you mowed twice a week @ 3" with a sharp blade you shouldn`t have all those clippings either. ![confused 3 confused 3](/forums/images/graemlins/default/confused2.gif) You might try bagging the clippings till you get a blower back. I bag mine about once every 3rd week just because I think it has a much better cut when the mower isn't having to mulch and it cleans up any grass clippings that hasn`t broken down.

Killer the good thing about catering to the bermuda is your weed killing options are just about endless.
Pack are you getting seed heads in your 419? I have what I think is 419, it's for sure some type of hybrid and I get no seed heads. I have some common patches mixed in and they seed head bad.
