Lets all agree to meet back here on August 1 and let the chips fall where they may. Hopefully at that point, things will be a lot clearer on who came out ahead. Why don’t you remind us.

This isn't a win loss, who is right deal. Of course the state is allowed to have the land if it wants to, no matter how underhanded they acted in acquiring it.
I don't believe whoever made eminent domain a law envisioned that govt would abuse its power and do it like this.

There are for sure winners and losers.
The people who win are the middle class, upper class and lower class citizens of Texas and visitors who will have access to fish and enjoy public accessible land.
The loser is Todd Interest.

I could care less but I doubt Todd comes out a loser, I bet they make a lot of money off this deal because of the stupidity of the TPWD.

Buc-ee about show them his beaver nuggets Buc-ee was unable to get a simple bill passed requiring Todd to get approval from two agencies to re-permit the use of the lake. We will see if he can get enough politicians on his side to take the land.

Loving watching people embrace socialism when it suits their desires. Interesting point. I am of two minds when it comes to that idea. 1. We have to whatever we can to protect and when possible expand public lands that offer high quality places for all outdoor activities. Hunting, fishing, camping, hiking etc. To me its incumbent upon each of us as sportsman to advocate for that through any and all means... 2. Its a business deal. Always has been. The state had a lease. Land is sold and lease is up. Its business. If the state wanted to work a deal early on it seems they had their chance and passed. Its only now, after all the outrage and publicity, they are wanting to make a deal. Not like the new owner took over BLM lands... shiiiddd. New owner has a right to the land to do as they please... state cannot just over rule that or intentionally create a long expensive battle... that they will lose unless they come to a deal. I agree the state should have stepped up when the offer was open to everyone.. How do yall feel about the state(crooked Bush) closing down rollover pass? Would have been better to build jetties and the economy would not have suffered. How do yall feel about Arlington stealing all the property for Jerrah to build his turd bowl?
God loves you just as much as anybody else!!

The state does not swoop down and take the land for pennies on the dollar. If they take the land the owner will be compensated.
We are not Oklahoma where we exploit the Native Americans to make billions off gambling.

We will see if he can get enough politicians on his side to take the land. My understanding is its done, the land will be taken, the TPW commission has the authority of eminent domain. That's why Todds tune changed so much this week, the question now is how much he gets for the land and his suffering

Sorry, I speak Native Texan. Let me try again, so you can relay it back to your boss at Todd. This whole mess is not the State abusing their power and will next be stealing the cars out of our driveways. This mess is a direct result of the Power Company wanting to make as much money as possible on the property and potential water rights. The power company has changed entities several times since striking the deal with the State years ago, so any deal made has long been forgotten. However the power company has and continues to get preferential treatment in the form of low property taxes from the County and it's citizens, of which I am one. The power company, should have made the state or even the county an offer even an idiot couldn't refuse or screw up. If they had, this Todd goofball would have never jumped into the middle of what should have never been an open market sale. But hey it's all about maximizing corporate profits, which is totally fine. You scratch my back for 50 years and I might catch you next week or give you an IOU. So in all honesty, Todd sees a potential property listed with a tax payer built existing infrastructure, makes an offer and then goes about marketing a future development as basically an exclusive or private State Park for blue bloods. When the State wakes up and realizes they fell asleep at the wheel, they say to Todd, hey we screwed up in 25 million ways. Todd says no, no, nanny nanny, boo boo, finders keepers losers weepers. So the state which is always in charge, is basically having to use an ugly paddle to spank his initialed arse. Like or not, end of discussion.......Mic drop. You keep speaking of this "deal" and how it has been "forgotten". WHAT DEAL??? If it's not on paper then it wasn't a deal, and whoever thought it was is a fool. Secondly, on the property tax issue. Your county gave them the sweetheart property tax deal. If it was a bad deal, then it seems to me the people to blame for that are the Freestone County Government officials that made the deal. Of course the power company is going to ask for the best deal possible. Any business would. If property tax money is your worry, there is no better way to get the property taxes flowing in than building a massive high end development. They can raise that property tax value on that every single year. That would be a cash cow dreams are made of for little Freestone County. I get you have an emotional attachment to the park and I respect that. But I will never be for the State being able to come in and step on private property rights. At bare minimum the State owes Todd investments what he paid, plus all costs associated with buying the property, plus all costs to fight this case. Anything short of that is screwing over a citizen of the State. I'll never be for that no matter the cause or the citizen. “Screwing over a citizen of the state” is exactly what Todd is doing by turning a state park and lake into a gated community for the rich and wealthy. The last thing Texas needs is more private property land owners. In 50 years our kids and their kids will not be able to hunt or fish the same way we have been able too because of greedy “private property owners”. The state owes it to its citizens to provide publicly accessible land for recreationally use. 95% of all land in our state is privately owned. The state of Texas is not going to come and steel your house, your car or your small tract of land because of the “precedence” set in this situation. Todd and his cronies are using that stupid argument to try and make the state look like they are power hungry and plan to take your property. This is a step in the right direction for Texas, we need more state parks and more publicly accessible land. So how is Todd "SCREWING OVER THE CITIZENS OF THE STATE"? What was his crime against humanity? His crime: HE BOUGHT A PIECE OF PROPERTY LISTED FOR SALE ONLINE. Wow, what a bastard. It's not his job to provide you a public hunting, fishing, and camping opportunity. Just like it isn't mine or anyone other private citizen's job. That is the job of the people you and I elect. If you want to get mad at someone, get mad at the government idiots that built tons of infrastructure on property they did not own. Get mad at the bureaucrats that could have responded to the same online for sale notice that Todd did and try to buy this property. Your anger is misplaced. I'm 100% in favor of more public parks as long as the State goes about acquisition in the right way. They need to buy it like anyone else or have it donated.

Any respectable business would have negotiated with the state in good faith and I do not feel that Todd or Vistra did in this case.

They probably did not, otherwise the state would not have taken this route. I'd love to know what Todds counter offer was to Aplin, maybe that will come out with the legal case.
