They’re the king pimp cat daddy rig for sure. If you might want to take it down a half notch buddy has a virtual new Majek 22 Reaper with a 300.

I’m way too prone to find new ways to get stuck to even think about skidding something like a Simmons over an oyster reef, but if that’s your deal tear it up.

It would make a decent bass rig right up until you get around stumps then it would get painful quickly.

Just for the sake of conversations.
Another buddy has been running simmons for a long time. He's on about his 5th one now. He cusses this one, says it's a pig since shallow sport started building them, it's way heavier. Which is not a big surprise, there's nothing light or thin on a shallow sport.

Learning to navigate shallow water is a steep and sometimes painful learning curve. You gotta know what you can run in, and you gotta know what you can stop in, two very different numbers. The first time you get in sixish inches of water over hard sand and feel your boat pick up, and your steering get really loose, you'll know real quickly what your panic level is.

Remember dark bottoms are good, white sand is bad, and a wave height is 1/2 the water depth. It's those slick spots that will ruin your day.

They're sharp boats!

After reading Pat's comments about Shallow Sports making the SCB boats now, I see that Simmons is still making boats as well.

If I had the coin, Simmons Custom Boats in Kemah would be one of my stops.

You wouldn’t believe the amount of these boats there are on the coast. Most are just sitting there because the owners live so far away.

Back in the day I wanted a Lanier Custom Boat. Don’t know if they still exist, but they were fast boats in their time.

Sorry to get off topic but what’s your thoughts on Majek Texas Skiff?

There's a fleet of flat bottom tunnel skiffs made. What do you want to do? If you're wanting to run thin, and don't care how it rides, there's your ticket. I ran a skiff for a while, they are what they are, just like every other hull built, it's all a matter of what you want to compromise on. The smoother it rides, the deeper it runs, that's just a fact that can't be changed.

Most freshwater guys simply can't imagine how shallow you can make one go, as long as you can feed water in the tunnel, you're going. It's just when you suck the water out of the tunnel things get dicey.
