Headed to the Frio next week for a family birthday and family reunion. Taking a rod and small box just in case. Anyone fish the Frio at all and if so any advice?
Thanks in advance.

Fish the Frio a lot. I fish the Uvalde County area and inside Garner State Park. I usually fish during the winter and fall. Garner State Park is to busy for me during the summer. Water is glass clear. I mainly target Bluegill and Rios. I use worms with and without a slip float. I fish the shaded areas and areas that that have structure such as rocks and brush piles. Also grass beds are holding fish during this time of year. Also try to find some deep pockets of water and fish the drop offs. Great river to fish with some very nice scenery. Good luck and hope you have a nice trip.

What part of the Frio will you be fishing? Hill country clear water = tiny crankbaits, small inline spinners small jigs and as Chuck mentioned worms. South Texas brush country = larger baits, rattle traps, spinnerbaits , and soft plastics

Staying on the river just outside Concan. Hill Country. Some good advice from Leo aka gar 1970 along with what I said.

Do you think about all the urine from the tubers floating the river? Just wondering.
I fish on the edge and stay out of the middle

2 lures I’ve had extensive and decades of luck w/on Texas Hill Country rivers(and Oklahoma, Arkansas…)Guadalupe, S. Llano, Llano, Frio…….. A clear Tiny Torpedo(top water prop bait) and a 3” curly tailed grub on a 1/8-1/4oz jig head is all you need. Whatever color you want….as long as it’s CHARTREUSE! Those river fish will hit lots of other lures(small spinners, cranks…) but if they aren’t hitting theses two baits they aren’t bitting! Like mentioned above unlike the other Texas Hill Country rivers the Frio presents a special problem. While there are tons of sunfish and small bass that will hit these lures they are very spooky in the GIN CLEAR water. Long casts! Best of luck! Y’all will love it down there! Neil

Neil Much appreciated sir. I have a few of each! I'll pick up the clear body Torpedo as the couple I have are in baby bass coloration. I did pull a clear Pop R are put it in the small box I'm packing but vids I;ve watched all showed someone with a tiny Torpedo catching fish.

We used to stay in Leakey and that clear torpedo worked well also a shad colored yellow magic, and to concur the chartreuse grub if something does not hit that, they are not biting. If I were going tomorrow I would have these two and maybe tiny fluke that looks like a glass minnow, clear/grayish with sparkles.
