When you were growing up, did you have access to some of those amazing ponds out in the country where you could catch bass all day long?
Those were the very best of times, catching fish on whatever lures you wanted to try. Heaven help you when you actually took some minnows and a bobber out there. We had access to some amazing ponds near Lake Bardwell outside of Ennis and a few around Midlothian. Great times fishing those places. Wished I still had a access to a few good ponds these days.

spent summers at the grandparents working on the farm, they had a full section with kings river (N.W. arkansas) on 3 sides.
fished every chance I got. used to catch perch, gut/scale and cook on a stick over a fire for lunch.
good times.

My dad's buddy in Alabama would let me fish their pond anytime I wanted. He came down one day and showed me how to catch the big ones right before we moved to Texas. Bluegill under a big Gatorade bottle bobber. I never realized how insane it was for a bass to pull that big Gatorade bottle completely underwater. I got spoiled to big fish. I still get to fish the quarry ponds at Ashgrove and TXI every now and then. Those old ones in the back that are hard to get to are the best. That's where I gained confidence in a jig. Dragging a jig along those rock ledges, then it getting smacked like someone pulled out a sledge hammer on it got me hooked.

I lived with my grandma in SC during the summers while my folks did mission trips around the world. My cousin lived next door and we would fish a pond nearby that an old lady owned and catch those giant hybrid bream and sometimes a bass. Always on a cane pole and worms we dug ourselves. I miss the simplicity and I might even say this fishing had a higher degree of satisfaction and enjoyment.

I have fished the old train station pump lake at 67&287 a few times. UNBELIEVABLE! I almost bought the south east corner from the owner, just so I could fish that place.

Almost every day in the summers, the best one was only a long walk and had another dozen plus ponds within a bike’s ride. Many of the ponds are still there but most no longer “accessible”. As we got a little older we would bike out to adventures on Grapevine and Trinity River gravel pits. Good times.

Is that the big pond just south of the 287/67 intersection? We used to fish that pond a lot in high school before the pastor finished building his house out there.

I learned on a mixture of bodies of water...very blessed to have grandparents and friends with access to water.
Rivers, lakes, and ponds were all fished during the summers of my youth.

I got to fish some ponds up in Allen when they were private and Allen was a country dot on the map. The two ponds were part of the Texans Rod & Gun club along with skeeet/ trap, small bore and big bore shooting ranges. Still get to fish those ponds as they are now part of Bethany Park, but just not the same as back in the day. Caught a man's bird dog one day as it chased my topwater, both me the little kid and said bird dog were howling until adults came to rescue the situation. Lot of adventure, memories and just plain fun living.

That's where all started for me. Had a golf course we would sneak on whenever we could when I was around 10. We'd go early morning or on Mondays when it was closed. Had 3 nice sized ponds that were loaded with quality size fish and we would kill it most outings. Soon we expanded our golf course adventures and rode our bikes to other courses we could find. This was in Houston and some of the places were Westwood CC, Braeburn CC, Sharpstown and Bear Creek. Another hotspot for us was a pond that was part of a restaurant property. Place was called Vargos off Westheimer and it was loaded with bass. Great times and great memories for sure. I still carry a rod with me sometimes when I play golf and sneak a few cast in whenever the opportunity arises.

Grew up on a 2 acre HOA pond in a suburb of Houston. It's had cycles of amazing fishing followed by overpopulation and heart breaking fish kills. At one point I caught a DD bass in it that was featured in the local newspaper. That was fifteen years ago mind you. My parent still live there, and my new neighbor is a fisherman who has put an extreme amount of effort into returning it to its former glory. Now we have feeders fattening bluegill, shad, and bass up to five pounds so easy to catch that you get nasty bass thumb after a day. I visit about 3 times a year and absolutely slay them from a little pelican bass raider with a powerpole on it. None of the lakefront property owners really fish, they are either seniors or busy with jobs/family so I usually have it to myself.
