After observing Gene (CHAMPION FISH) do really well with a new green body - green blade Bo-blade bait three weeks ago, I decided to contact Mark Bovee and get a couple to try. Today I got a chance to compare it to a Mepps #4 on Cedar Creek Lake. It was a good test because we found several large schools on structure, and my sister (Who is good with a Mepps) was with me. She fished the Mepps and I fished mostly with the Bo-blade. Gene had worked the Boblade like a Mepps - casting out and reeling it back to the boat on the bottom about 6 to 7 reel turns at a time. So, I worked it that way. The results are that the Bo-blade caught them as well as the Mepps. Of course, it is much heavier, and I could get it down to the bottom and start the next drag faster than the lighter, slower-sinking Mepps in the 25 fow water. Sis was catching one every cast with a Mepps, and I was with the Bo-blade. But I caught more because of the faster sinking Bo-blade. Sis also tried the Bo=blade and caught fish. This is just one data point, but so far this green Bo-blade looks good - doing as well for me as it did for Gene. The fish were pretty active today, so it will take more trips out to see how it does when fish are finicky. I like what I see so far, and those who complain about the Mepps' light weight might want to give this bait a try. I have a picture of it below and some pictures of our outing this morning. I have found they catch better than any lure out there and usually catch bigger fish, that’s just my personal experience. Jeff Craft, Frank, and I easily put 150 fish in the boat this morning on Tawakoni using it. 👍👍
Contact Mark Bovee for the lures. He is located in Rockwall. 512-796-0333

Hi Dennis. Here is the history of the lure. Mark and I are neighbors in Rockwall. My wife's family have all owned lake houses in White Deer Landing right beside Tawakoni State Park since the 60's. My wife and I also bought a house in here in 2019. That lure was created and produced here at White Deer Landing by two gentlemen, Mac and Gilbert. My wife's cousin Casey has a place beside us. Coming up Casey used to help them make the slabs. Both Mac and Gilbert went home to the Lord the past few years. Mac's daughter and her husband live in here. I stopped by a couple years ago and asked was the lure patented. She said no. Gave me her blessing to make them. I got some of the original lures and took them to Mark. Mark was just beginning to make lures. Mark is an engineer by trade. We've had some ideas and tweaks. Mark implemented them and made a great lure greater. I'm here to say right now. There is not a better sand bass/striper/hybrid lure out there. Don't take my word for it. Try it. When you try it. You will become a customer. Gene and I took a buddy Jeff from Texoma on Tawakoni yesterday. I put in an order for 75-of them for Jeff! Over the past two weeks. I've handed out ten of them with Mark's card on Tawakoni. I literally watch people go from not catching to catching. This is a once in a lifetime lure. I know. I've been fishing it here since 1980 when I got married to Kathy. Lastly the lure is 50-years old this year. And Joe Read, Jimmy, Matt all the established guides know the lure. I know Joe does! Delivered a bunch to him last week. Mac, Gilbert. Thank you for a fantastic lure. The legacy lives on. God Bless. Fishboy Frank.

Fishboy Frank, thanks for the history on Bo Blade. I got a couple about 3 years ago and tried them, but it was in the late summer when fish wanted smaller baits. They were white or silver. I watched Gene catch them using pretty much the crank and stop method I use for Mepps #4, and it was impressive. It seems the green or chartreuse is the color right now. I tried the green again today on CC but went to deep water to see if I could find legal hybrids. I used my Bobo thumper in 35 to 45 fow and pulled fish up under me. I dropped the heavy Bo Blade down to the bottom and reeled it up through the fish, which were from the bottom to ten feet above the bottom. I caught good white bass every time I cranked the lure up through the fish and even caught some yellow bass, catfish, and a few short hybrids. I tried several areas and several deep depths but never hooked a legal hybrid. The Bo Blade works well also fishing it straight down. Sometimes they hit it on the fall and sometimes they hit it cranking straight up medium speed. I'm going to test it tomorrow on Tawakoni. Question: Is there a larger version for use in targeting legal hybrids and stripers?

Hi Dennis. Funny you said that. I had a ton of big sand bass under me Wednesday under my splasher in 30-FOW. For grins I started dropping the spinner slab straight down. I would crank up a crank. Boom! So yesterday Gene and Jeff and I went out. Same thing. But we also noticed on the graph they were hanging up from the bottom some by the shadows straight down from the fish. Same depth as Wednesday. So, we casted to them. Let it hit the bottom. Reeled straight back horizontally. We literally caught every cast for two-hours. I told Todd I'll be out tomorrow. I'll look for you all.

Dennis, thanks for the testing of the lure. Sounds like I better get my order in. With all these endorsements, I see them fixing to get even more busier making these lures. What is the cost for buying these lures? Is there a minimum amount you can buy? What payment methods do they accept?

Thanks for this! I want to use artificials more but don’t have the patience for the Mepps because I fish deeper. Will have to give it a try!

First time I ever saw that design was about 35 years ago at the Market Hall Boat Show in Dallas. Dont remember who was selling them but the ones I bought looked just like that but the treble hook had some spinnerbait skirt material on it. I played around with that idea over the years with Mariboo instead. They caught fish but cant say it was magic.

Took a three hour drive tonight to get the hook-up on a couple dozen different sizes from Mark. Will hope to give them a test drive in a day or two.
