Bottom line: Nothing our government or any other government can do will end violence. It's incredibly naive to believe so. What needs to be done is our government quit trying to divide the nation with hate and discrimination. And the dumpster fire of a White House we have now has no desire to do that. If we're all fighting each other we can't deal with them.

That’s true.

Oh, and where's that rational explanation of how these gun control schemes are going to work? It amazes me that so many people can support gun bans, but have no clue how or why (not) they would work. But because their favorite corrupt politician says they work, they blindly support them. Don't any of the gun control proponents know how to think for themselves? Good Lord, cars kill more people than guns, but all these "end the slaughter" activists skate around that one. How many people get shot every day on Chicago, with its stupid strict gun laws. The honest citizens are the only unarmed people there. Anybody recall the gun laws in Washington DC prior to the Heller decision? Just having a handgun in your home took an act of Congress. Yet the per capita violent crime rate in DC, according to the FBI, was 2 1/2 times higher than any state (the FBI used to consider DC the same as a state in its Uniform Crime Reports). With arguably the strictest gun laws in the nation. And these idiots -- who live in DC -- want us to believe that "gun control is proven to reduce violence". Right...........

For those of you who still don't understand: The criminals and the nuts are going to get guns if they want them. And drugs. And other illegal stuff. They're criminals; they aren't bound by the laws. Most of them don't purchase their tools of the trade legitimately; the ones who do would just obtain them off the street if they couldn't obtain them legally. How many Glock "switches" are in Chicago alone? They are federally banned, but the thugs have no problem getting them.

Secondly: Firearms are not the only way to commit violence. There are countless ways to do that, and anyone who believes that a gun ban would change that is in need of a serious reality check.

Jim you’re wasting your time with logic- some of these people just want the perception of safety sold to them by politicians.

Don't expect any thought provoking, reasonable or articulate answers to your very valid questions. The guys that are gonna argue with you the loudest will not reply with much of a response.

Of course, links representing the opposite can be found.

In the meantime, Americans don't want what you call an "assault weapon" banned.

No real American is for gun control of banning guns
Banning guns won’t stop bad guys with guns and they will still have them

So here is what is defined as stricter in that article:

The poll shows bipartisan majorities of Americans support a nationwide background check policy for all gun sales, a law preventing mentally ill people from purchasing guns, allowing courts to temporarily prevent people who are considered a danger to themselves or others from purchasing a gun, making 21 the minimum age to buy a gun nationwide and banning those who have been convicted of domestic violence from purchasing a gun.

Nothing unreasonable that I can see in the above. However, would implementation of those ideas significantly reduce the mass shooting incidents? Might be some decrease, and any decrease would be good, however if those measures did not end mass shootings, then there will be a push for further laws/restrictions. It's not like we'll pass some laws and that will be that.

the same people who are demanding "gun control" are the ones that printed this on the 4473/form to buy a gun.

21.c.: “Do you intend to sell or otherwise dispose of any firearm listed on this form and any continuation sheet(s) or ammunition in furtherance of any felony or other offense punishable by imprisonment for a term of more than one year, a Federal crime of terrorism, or a drug trafficking offense?”

also realize that a background check for all gun sales would mean we have to register our guns which scotus has deemed unconstitutional.

there are laws/questions on the 4473 addressing mental illness, domestic violence is also on the form.

bottom line is that to do what the govt. wants this time is the same as canceling our second amendment, the current laws are substantial but only if they are enforced.

I'd like to see BigLeslie's source for his "71% of Americans say gun laws should be stricter" statement.
