I'm also dealing with the HOA tree mandates. Very typical DFW neighborhood with small yards and houses very close together. My live oak and the neighbor's elm tree are planted about 15 feet apart in a strip of grass that is maybe 8 feet wide.

Yes, all the St. Aug lawns in my neighborhood got hit hard, including mine.
Three weeks ago, I mixed that fish emulsion and Garrett Juice with some water in a pump sprayer and sprayed the entire lawn.
Then put down Milorganite last week.
Showing signs of recovery, but it'll be a process this year.


Agree, it was the unnaturally warm December and January. That little freeze we had last week of January/first week of February was something we've had once every 2-3 years.

Peat was the old school cure for years until Disease Ex(Azoxy) became available on the retail market. 3336 is off patent now so you can get it as a generic. I haven't looked to see if there a granular generic, but I got the spray generic a couple weeks ago. Fighting high Ph is a never ending battle. In 3yrs I've gone from 7.7 to 7.4 using elemental Sulphur twice a year and ammonium sulfate or nitrate as my nitrogen source. 0.3 drop doesn't seem like much but that's pretty good. I'm increasing my sulphur apps this year and see what happens.

In 2013 I self-diagnosed my St. Augustine issue as TARR. I could have been wrong, but who knows. Had it in 2012 but only in a small area. By spring of 2013 it had spread to about 80% coverage of my 36,000 sq. ft. lawn when it came out of dormancy. Everything I read at the time was about peat moss to cure it and high PH was the problem. Don`t recall anything about DiseaseEX at the time. Was it on the market then??? I did apply some peat moss to the worst area (about 15 bales) and said a prayer for the rest. Didn`t have the want to and wasn`t going to spend the $$ to do all of my lawn. I had lots of dead grass but there was still enough green to give me hope. I scalped and bagged my lawn that spring lower than ever before trying to get as much dead grass up as possible. The pile of dead grass clipping and mulched oak leaves from 60+ trees was pretty huge to say the least. I had been able to maintain a beautiful lawn with no fertilizer or herbicides for 14 years. Grass clippings and mulched leaves from the 60 oak trees in my lawn had been enough to provide the nitrogen required. That summer I used a 3-1-2 slow-release fertilizer 3 times and pushed growth as much as possible. The next spring it had bounced back and fully recovered. Out of all the research I did at the time, I came across an article somewhere, from some university that said that oak leaves are acidic when they break down initially, but over time they turn the soil alkaline and therefore raise the PH. From that point on I mulched and bagged every leaf that hit the ground. Did it help????? Who knows, but the disease never came back while I lived there until 2016.

Got the yard mowed/trimmed today after it dried out a bit and sprayed BioAdvanced Fungus spray on the front. I plan to put out Scotts Disease EX in the back tomorrow after I fish and before the storms.

I’m looking pretty good for late April. Great temps next week. Did my first app of growth regulator last week. Glad I did with all the rain. But the first app shocks your grass and makes it turn a bronze color for a couple weeks but then goes back to normal. And I did a 1/4 of the recommended rate and still bronzed pretty. Tough to see in h the overall pic but you can see if in the close pic. And it’s more noticeable in person than a phone pic.

Disease EX came out in 2018 I believe. Might have been 2016.
