150. Yikes. I try and save my Celsius app for summer if needed, but that might have been a good candidate to hit it with. DMO is now selling small packs of it.

Ok PIC HEAVY weeds.... All broadleaf's except these two. If you're out of dormancy pretty well I would fertilize it pretty good, give it a week then the Image product I linked before will handle all those except these two. The first one here is king ranch blue stem, not sure the other, but it's some type of grass weed. Get 41% glyphosate and use a paint brush on those. You're going to have some damage there but a paint brush or bingo dauber will minimize it. I'm not too concerned about the second one, but you want to get the king ranch under control now. It's probably the worst weed we have. It will grow 10X faster than your grass, so if you miss some you will see the top growth stems well above your grass. Brush those stems with the 41% and you'll avoid doing damage to your turf. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2023/04/full-5845-180114-krbs.jpg) I have every one of those weeds this year myself. I was pizzed as my yard looked great last year. So I spot sprayed every one I could see last week with 41% glyphosate and now my yard looks kinda like a checkerboard as the weeds (and surrounding grass) have died and the real grass is greening up. Oh well.

Yeah, spot spraying can get sketchy at best. Specially with 41% gly with no way to calculate "spot spray" apps and putting a heavier concentrate down per say. You can dauber it. It will mow/grow out soon if bermuda. This was the perfect year to blanket spray Gly for weeds, specifically Dallis. It never went dormant. Early app in Feb/March with a pre emergent works wonders. I did a blanket spray on two neighbors lawns. One was covered in Dallis and Bermuda as the main. I'll try and get pic tomorrow. I smoked his whole lawn and the Bermuda is bouncing back nicely with the fertilizer and water. He's is behind the rest of the hood, but he also didn't ask until like 6 weeks ago.

Alright Derek, recently moved into my dads old house and it appears 95% of the st Augustine grass is dead this year. What gives? Did the freeze around Christmas kill it? Will it come back on its own?

Yeah, my lawn got blasted as well. Have several bald spots that I've never had before. Looking into getting some seed, dirt, and straw to get it back up and going.

Probably got hammered by disease in Dec/Jan. Very warm winter. New Years Day was upper 70's, Even had some 80's in January with overnight temps well above 50 and 60's. Prime for disease. And the last thing you think of those months is going to check the lawn.

Put a curative rate of Diseasex down 2 weeks ago and it seems to be helping. All my neighbors that keep their yards well that have Bermuda are really looking good now. All my close neighbors have some great "Texas Wildflower" weed patches.

Derek, do you think putting down a preventive rate of a Fungicide is worth the risk of making whatever you put down less effective over time when fungus`s build up a resistance to the fungicide over time? Rotating fungicides can help offset this, but then you have to have 2 fungicides on hand. Risk vs. Reward ![confused 3 confused 3](/forums/images/graemlins/default/confused2.gif) . What are your thoughts?

I keep three on hand. 3336, Eagle 20 and Azoxy(Disease Ex) At a minimum I would keep 2. Azoxy and Propiconazole. I don't use Prop since it's also a PGR(Plant Growth Regulator) I'm already using a PGR and don't want to stack one on top of another. Typically if you rotate 2 or even use 2 at the same time your resistance typically go down. What I do is if I think I have some type of disease I google it and then put in NC State. I.e. Dollar Spot NC State. NC State has very good write ups on disease and will recommended what to use.

If your St. Augustine is stressed, start by mowing at 3". I'm helping my Son In Law recover his yard, just got through writing him a two page, month by month plan he can show his HOA.

Nice! I'd like to see it. All these new developments they are putting in and you get sod, 2 trees, and irrigation and on a HOA are going to be a disaster. They are planting 2 Live Oaks, or Cedar Elms about 10 feet apart on 1500+/- square foot front yards and the HOA won't let you take the trees out. This has been going on for years. Buddy of mine(actually a few) are in this setup and pleading with the HOA's to let them cut the trees down and have nice turf with no luck so far. I have no problem with trees when planted correctly and used in the correct setting, but this 2 tree deal in a residential setting is asinine. Do sod, irrigation and if the homeowner chooses to plant a tree then so be it. Put planting trees on the approval list and not a must have. Let the homeowner have just a nice turf lawn if he/she chooses.

What are your thoughts? To go back to this for a bit. Know your grass. Not everyone is a grass nerd like you and me. Generically speaking, Know your grass. Do a little research on it. Get an idea of what's going on. Personally my main concern is Dollar Spot. I've had it 2 of the last 4 years and Disease EX really does nothing for it so I've had to up my game on that. I've had no large patch, tarr or other disease issues. If you have St. Aug, Zoysia or Bermuda get good close up pics of the leaves/blades where the bad meets the good and identify the best you can what fungus/disease you have. That can also tell you what fert program you need somewhat. If you have bermuda and have dollar spot you can push through that with some fungicide, add some nitrogen and bag your clippings for a mow or two. If your St. Aug and have gray leaf spot, you want to shut down your nitrogen apps, fungicide and bag. This goes back to know your grass and what to look for. Not rocket science stuff here, but the more you pay attention to your lawn the better it will be and you don't need many if any BS online products.
