In my younger days I built tires for COOPER tires, I suggest you contact the company that built the tires on your boat trailer, see if you can get the actual facts about trailer tires and automotive type tires. BLOW OUTS are almost always caused by low tire pressure and high speed, trailers or automotive.

I have 4 Carlise Radial Trail HD 215/74R14 (102m) on my McClain trailer for 3 years and no issues to complain of. Got them on sale for $52 each on amazon and had a local shop put them on for $60.

Goodyear Endurance. The less expensive tires cost me $100’s, maybe even $1k in damage every time they blow up. The Endurance haven’t blown up. Yet. Making them the cheapest.

As for actual costs on a tire? I bought some 205/75-14’s from academy on clearance once for $6 a tire. Sold them to a coworker. Never tried them.

Just had belt separation on a 3 year old Goodyear Endurance tire. I was lucky it stayed together coming home from Bridgeport last week. My mechanic recommended NTB / national tire Road Max ST, load range D (2020lbs) speed range M (81 mph ) for half the cost of Goodyear’s.

good perspective. was thinking about buying some of these or the carlisle at Wally World much cheaper. Have marathons on now, but need to replace them and they are hard to find in the 14 inch rim size. Thanks!

So this is a sticky thread for trailer tires? If so:
I'm in the process of buying a '91 Aumacraft Classic Deluxe, 40HP 2stroke Merc, Shorland'r single axle trailer with 5.30x12" tires on a 5x4.5 bolt pattern. It's going to be a 1200+mile drive home. It's current tires are 2 years old but I figured I would buy some spares anyways. Right now it has Kenda LoadStar tires on it. I see some TaskMaster tires which are speed rated M for 81mph. Those are the only tires this size that I've seen with a speed rating. I've heard 70mph is supposed to be the max speed for trailers but I see people driving with trailers like they're in a sports car all the time. Will it be fine going 75mph on a unrated tire? What psi to run? They're 80psi and I thought you're supposed to run them at max but my boss who has lots of trailers says he runs them a little under max. Another thing I need to figure out and don't know if I can is bearings. There are bearing buddies but idk if I can figure out spare bearings to order.

Do you think I will be fine doing this? Thanks.

Run them at max cold. Stay under their speed rating.

These tires are bad right? I wanna say the sidewall picture definitely but what about the knobby parts peeling off/missing? What causes that? I was told they were only 2-3 years old but they're stamped 3211. I was shocked...

Well they look like they have a manufacturer defect. You are extremely fortunate not to have suffered a blowout while towing. The next place I would tow it is to a tire shop. Goodyear Endurance is the only trailer tire made in the US. Most are made in China.

I wouldn’t tow that to a shop- take them off and haul them to the shop- unless it’s a short drive

Manufacturing defect? They’re frigging 12 years old. That’s dry rot
