LDWF stocked walleye in Lake D'arbonne in north Louisiana when it was impounded in 1963, no one ever caught any of them as far as I know and it was just assumed that they died off from not being able to survive in that warm of a climate. A few years ago somebody finally caught one. That lake has some 40 foot plus water that no one hardly ever fishes. Most folks consider fishing deep in that lake around the 20 foot mark and don't go past that level. I figure there must be a small population of walleye living in the deeper extremities of that lake where the water is cooler year round.
Peacock bass wouldn't survive there either unfortunately. I'd love to catch one.

The only places in NTX where peacocks might survive is a power plant lake, like Squaw or something. Like they said before it was probably a confusion with the palmetto bass. They did stock walleyes in Lewisville for a bit from 1972 to 1974, and stripers from 1989 to 1998. The rest of the stocking in that lake are species that make sense, only LM and wipers since about 2000.

There were (I'm not sure there still are any) Walleye in Squaw Creek a number of years ago. My club was fishing there and my partner tried lipping one. Got the surprise of his life!

Walleye were stocked in most of the DFW lakes in the 70s. I think they were just trying to figure out what would live in Texas reservoirs. Much like the smallmouth, only some lakes did well with them. With the walleyes it's just Meredith as far as I know.

Caught a nice walleye on Ray Hubbard in 1978 on a squarebill and caught one on Squaw Creek before they fired up they fired up the plant. Great meals.

Squaw actually had a decent population of them before the plant went online. You could run to the dam before daylight and catch a few

It was around that time period TPWD stocked stripers in Lake Lewisville but it didn't work out and they stopped the stocking after a few years. Stripers thrive in river systems and lakes that are snake like (Texoma, Possum Kingdom,etc}
