Is there anybody else out there who thinks the moon phases are way oversold on the effect on the spawn??

I hear it every year "Full moon next week! Should bring a big wave of spawners in!!!" and I'm incredibly cynical because I've never noticed a correlation personally.

My experience is the opposite. I firmly believe in the effects the moon phase has on the spawn.

I think it's 60/40....60% follow one pattern, 40% follow another

Do they follow the moon, sure. Mother nature has proven that. But do all of them, I doubt it.

If you look at the history of all the biggest bass ever caught, it appears that there is a pattern, but I have to work for living so I take it with a grain of salt and just go fishing every weekend. A lot of factors play into it all ie: wind, clouds, rain, but I think the most important thing of all is water temp for instance- If a huge cold front blows in on a full moon it can have a negative affect. 3 or 4 days in a row with night temps getting warmer and warmer around a full moon and bam!

Always a mystery when they will move up, but typically on a full moon cycle. So I believe in it, its the other factors that get me.

I fish primarily at night on the full moon year round, and do much better. But I think it's all in "Ones head" when they develop confidence in something. I think it's a big trigger for many things, including Bass spawning & Sandbass running up the creek. I'm not a biologist but I would say it helps more for eating, as they can see better than the little fish. I think that if I am "Not feeling It!" with where I'm fishing, or with what I am using I follow my instinct and make a change. Gotta hunt and peck often to dial it in... But I surprisingly, and refreshingly learn something new while fishing with others to adapt to new ideas... I think that is why I love it, and why I am so "Mad at 'em" right now. Been a awesome year so far, and it's only getting started, without my fishing Mentor it would be drastically different. Everyone needs a fishing buddies to give you hell, and learn something from and I have two (locally) that I trust that don't BS aroud when it comes to fishing.

Probably a little truth in the moon phase deal. It's the cows laying down nonsense that I ignore.

Forgot an old saying I heard from a man named John Williams at Falcon. He said "when you start seeing skunks on the side of the road, fish are spawning". Weird but interesting..

Fish don't care what the moon is doing. Do they have a celestial calendar down there somewhere?

I keep it simple. If it's mid to late February then at some point in the day I am going up shallow or pushing way back into creeks etc and looking no matter what the weather is doing or what phase the moon is in.

That was my experience especially all during the 90's and 00's back when I kept logs of all of my fishing during those days.
The interesting thing was that I also mostly night fished from Memorial weekend into the fall and winter a lot of the time and I found that I caught quite a bit more fish when there was no moon as opposed to a full moon at night. Back in those days I paid a lot of attention to stuff like that but I don't have the opportunity to fish all of the time these days so I don't pay attention to anything but going when I can and have a great time.

Caught a few FAT fish yesterday (day after the full moon) so I don’t know if they still have eggs, or just been eating REAL well the past couple of days.

In the spring I usually start a little deeper and if not getting bites move up shallower and shallower until I find some fish

Regardless of where the moon is or it's phase, if I see all the cows laying down I just turn around and go home.
