So I went out fishing for anything, and I didn't not expect to catch a freshwater drum, yet alone 2! Now I want to learn how to target them, does anyone here know any proven methods? I caught the 2 of a crank bait and a rattle trap. I'll include the video if anyone wants to watch, but now they have really sparked my interest. I've eaten them before and know they taste pretty good.

Freshwater drum are pretty aggressive and fight really hard. I would use cut-bait if I were targeting them. They also like earthworms. As you discovered, they will sometimes hit crank baits, jigs, spinners, and I have caught them on a fly. There are some nice ones out there.

We catch them all the time when we are fishing for white bass. Use a small lead slab with silver spinner blade and white or chartreuse body jigged on the bottom. They are very opportunistic and will in my opinion congregate under schooling fish to get whatever drops. Often if we go all the way to the bottom under schooling white bass and let it stay near the bottom too long, we will intermittently catch drum. You can use Bob Maindelle's set up. That thing has caught us everything from crappie to white bass largemouth, smallmouth, blue cats and hybrids. Plus, Bob is a really good Guy!

Drum aren’t too picky, catch them on lures, cut bait, worms, but mostly on minnows while sandbass fishing in the spring.

Nice catch....Is that a tilapia with the drum?... Yes it is a tilapia next to the drum. The fish were caught in Squaw Creek.
