My mother used to say bout thunder that the old man upstairs was bowling, and when there was one of those close-sharp-not-rolling-thunderclaps she'd say the old man made a strike. I understand the no bathing/showering if the house has metal (especially copper) pipes but with today's houses having pex hose I wonder if that still holds.
Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

My dad and I were watching TV and we watched a lightening bolt travel down the old flat 2 wire antenna cable and into our console TV. Saw a big flash on the screen then it went dark and smoke started coming out of the console. We unplugged it, rolled it out on the front porch and dad took the back cover off as I ran to the boat and got the old pump up fire extinguisher. We put the fire out and on Monday started testing and replacing vacuum tubes till it was fixed. As you can guess I was kind of young and it was many years ago, back when TV Cabinets were fine furniture.

I can remember growing up that my grandmother would not talk on phone or take a bath/ shower if there was lightning in the area. Did I miss old wives tale? Or do you think you can explain your misguided thinking?

Residential landlines barely carry any electricity. That is why a landline still works when power is out. 48 volts. Low amps but what does that have to do with anything? Thought we were talking about lightning?

I will never forget sitting in house watching a rented vcr and vhs when the cord melted all the way to tv. Everything melted and destroyed.

I wouldn’t talk on a cell phone if it’s charging either. Our house got hit or it was very close. Took out 2 garage door openers a TV and a few lights. I also had the cell phone in my hand. I can’t believe it didn’t fry the phone. I could sure as hell feel it!

Lightning trivia.
Lighting starts at both ends and meets somewhere in the middle. Since the positive charge is much higher than the negative it meets close to the ground.
Someone said not to fish during a thunderstorm. Me and Marty Bob can verify that to be true. We were fishing a weekly tournament on Joe Pool one evening as a thunderstorm was going through. Marty heard it first but our rods were "sizzling", making a noise. You could lower the rod and it would stop but raise it and it got louder.
Marty was smart and wanted to head to the bank and wait it out. We were catching fish so we stayed.
I am wrong but you can not prove it, you just believe it enough from the bottom of your heart.....
