Going to recon Hagerman National Wildlife refuge tomorrow. Any crappie fishing in the Big mineral creek? Won't fish tomorrow but will look closely for spawning areas. Well might fish some.

Big mineral is the size of some lakes and entirely in Texas! Plenty of crappie in there! Good luck! thumb

They split the difference, used the Oklahoma bag limit and the Texas length limit. Surface temp is in the lower 40s. Earliest I’ve ever seen spawning fish out there was the very tail end of March, but I’d hazard to say that area would be worth a shot in spawn time. I’ve limited in okieland before, hauling out a stringera of 37 crappie out can be a chore, but it’s nice to not have to mess with measuring them.

That's my spot. I was catching a few in the creeks last month. They usually get going late March. The banks are super thick, so it's pretty tough walking the banks.

Going to launch a small boat there at the bridge. Yesterday the water was lightly muddy and appeared little was going on. One young guy fishing, The recon was to look for good hog hunting.

I know but the purpose of the Sunday trip was recon for hog sign in anticipation of a drawn hog hunt on Hagerman. However I will report back on both the fishing and the hog hunting after the three day stay, 3,4, and 5th of March. As warm as it has been I would guess we will catch some crappie.
