You can see his point, you can defend him, but none of it is warranted. The fish came to the boat hooked OR snagged (gasp, did he really just say that??? Well yes, the definition of snag would be “not hooked where it’s supposed to be) in the back. Guys will sit here and say “well it happens with that lure”. Well yeah, we all have said that, even the “claimed to be haters”. IT HAPPENS WITH THAT LURE!!!! (Quit throwing it then, must be why the professional trails don’t allow it, it’s nothing but controversial).
Let me type it where some might understand it. IF THAT FISH HAD NOT BEEN HOOKED IN THE BACK, WHEN IT CAME TO THE NET, IT WAS NOT ENDING UP IN HIS NET; BECAUSE AT THAT TIME THERE WAS NO HOOK IN IT’S MOUTH. IT WOULD HAVE JUST BEEN ANOTHER, “THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY”.
Nobody said he intentionally snagged it, we said it was hooked in the back, when it came to the boat. By definition of the current State Law inTexas, it’s a foul hooked fish. A foul hooked fish is one that’s not hooked in the mouth. We all apologize that the truth and reality of the situation makes some people upset, Jack Nicholson in “A few good men” said it properly, apparently “you can’t handle the truth”.
And to the ones who claim it’s “toxicity on the forum”, it’s other forums talking about it as well. There is more than 1 fishing forum in America.
So…you’re saying he shouldn’t eat it? I don't get what everyone is arguing about. Was he supposed to immediately chunk it back into the lake and say “my bad”? Was he not supposed to share the catch with others in social media? Why is everyone mad? I wanna be mad too…what am I supposed to get mad about? Oh! I get it. He wasn’t supposed to donate it to SAL. We shouldn’t benefit from the fishes offspring in other lakes! I get it now. Duh. I will be the first to admit I am not a Conn Fanboy. I agree with Steez.

I agree Steez and I think the only guys mad, are the guys that don’t like hearing that it was back hooked. I don’t blame the guy for anything. None of us even knew this goofy state law until we were discussing it here, that thing needs to be re-written. This whole “he was intentionally snagging stuff”, came from his own fan base. One of these morons here posted my screen name on Conns FB page and I have never discredited the guy or said that he was trying to snag it. Fricking idiots, I tell you.
And I don’t know why the 17.13 (might have been 17.18) weight wasn’t called the official weight, makes no sense to me.

If you are not saying he intentionally snagged it, what exactly is your point, and what exactly do you want to happen here? Spell it out for us. He isn't getting credit for a lake record. Nobody is cutting him a huge check. The state is going to give him a replica, a hat, a sticker, and a few lures. Do you want him to return all that? To be fair though they are getting some awesome genetics any way you spin it. Will that help you sleep better at night knowing some dude on the internet doesn't get credit for catching a bigger fish than you? What's it take to just congratulate a guy on something cool? Should he be required to whip his willy out and put it on a bump board? Bigger fish, bigger willy, cast to catch video, certified scales, no clients in the boat, but you can't be by yourself, and last but not least a letter of approval from the pope? Then we can say awesome, congrats?
It's a fish man, a big fish.
I'm grateful we all got to see it. I'm grateful to be able to fish water where fish like these exist. I'm grateful Milliken, Josh Jones, and whoever else figured out these big fish are out there and catchable. The last two years have been a lot of fun for guys who love chasing big bass. Let good intentions and a shared love of the sport be enough.

I don’t want anything, except for idiots to quit putting words into other peoples mouths. Brandon Potter deleted his comment, but it went on for like 5 paragraphs of the dumbest stuff imaginable. Apparently, you didn’t read my whole post above, shocker… If I wanted to say the guy intentionally snagged it, I would say that; but I don’t think he did. Surely by now you don’t think I have a problem calling out your stupidity on the whole Covid deal or how stupid your whole “vote libertarian” theology is. Since when did Americans become afraid of the truth, we now need to lie about stuff to make others feel better or what.

My question stands, what do you want to happen? Steeze said it better I guess, should he have just thrown it back?

Just told you, I want you idiots to quit making up stuff. I don’t care a about the fish, I have no reason too.
Is it that hard to admit where the hook was, seems to be. Lol

Come on, say it out loud Josh, “it was hooked in the back, it happens with a rigs”. Oh wait, that was said 10 pages back.

You said he didn't intentionally snag the fish, but the fish came to the net with a hook in the back. Okay. I can see that in the video as well. My question is simple, what should he have done? What would you have done? Why any negativity on it at all?

He did what he should have done and he admitted where it was hooked. Problem comes when bozos here start making up comments and then running to FB to post what they made up.
What would I have done? Been disappointed that it was hooked in the back, definitely wouldn’t have been bragging about it.

This is the same guy posting his cat fish and buffalo in threads with trophy bass. Good luck trying to understand him. All his south Texas minions love him tho.

Congrats to the dude. Everyone else should be collecting rent for as much as this dude lives in your head.

I disagree. I'm betting the hook came out of the mouth BECAUSE it got hooked in the back as well. Had it not gotten accidentally snagged in the back during the retrieve, that fish would have likely been netted with original hook in the mouth. The fish ate the lure he presented to it, he deserves all the accolades. Anyone saying otherwise, is just jealous.
