At my old job, and guy left his kid in the car "by accident". It was mid summer and the kid was dead by 10am. The kicker is, the same guy did the same thing a week before. I know this because I heard the kid crying on my walk into work and told the father. He acted like I was kidding at first, then ran out to his vehicle to drop the child off a daycare. Does anyone want to guess how much time he had to spend in prison for killing his own child?

I heard about this on the news about 4 or 5 years ago I think. This has to be the same incident. How sad, I can't imagine having to live with that the rest of my life.

Great to hear of the outcome. The power of the internet at its best.

Then comes all the outrageous remarks: shoot them up, father failed... Hmm, too bad.

Well said. thumb

Also Proverb, your comments also give ammunition for all the Christian bashers.

Have you ever heard about a Sunday morning Christian? or a Chameleon Christian? That is someone that is only a Christian around the people that he thinks are Christians, but lives a different life outside of that.

Check this out? and think about your sinful nature, and hopefully you can see what it says. Also, look up what some of these words actually mean. Like Hostility and Quarreling

Galatians 5

19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Give them lots of empathy and let them know you understand that it was probably really scary, but you will always be there to protect them as you already have, and that you are not disappointed that they won't go to the lake with you anymore. Just keep offering to take them, reassure them that you are safe (if you didn't already consider this, they may be scared for you when you go without them, that they may lose you) and that if they go to the lake with you, they can be in control; for example, if they want to stay close to shore that's ok, if they get afraid and want to leave as soon as you get there, that's ok too. Be patient, and don't get upset or push them. You may have to sacrifice going to some of the better fishing spots in order to get your kids back on the water again. Eventually they will regain their trust of the water and that is what is important. I'd hate for your kids to miss out on all the fun that can be had on the water because somebody else was so irresponsible!

Godspeed friend.

That is some great information right there. thumb

I think I need to talk to you about my daughters sleep walking.

Hmmmm

You are all probably correct in that I may have spoke out of bounds and I apologize for that. Sometimes I may talk alot of smak without thinking it through. After going through all the posts I was pretty angry about people doing that to other people. I just imagined my self trapped in a little boat with my two kids and another boat coming right at us. What to do in those few seconds. Hope I'm never in that position.

I performed forensic autopsies for 5 years and have autopsied children killed by fools and evil people. Its made me paranoid and extremely protective of kids.

Growing up I not only worried about what trouble I'd get into with the law if I did something wrong. What would keep me walking the line most thinking about how it would shame my Dad. If a kid grows up to be able to plow into a boat and hurt 3 people in it and run off, then a few days later go into other lakes to have fun and not be bothered by it, Yes I'm afraid some level of Superego was NOT developed in that boy. If you dont agree with that than we disagree. I've seen, touched, and smelled the worst that mankind can dish out to another human. Do you really think that your actions as a parent are not going to affect your kids decision making when they hit 20? I do regret my macho attitude bubbling up on keyboard. Sorry.

Glad everything turned out well for those involved. So long.

Its hard to say what anyone would do in these types of situations when its your turn to decide. If I was sitting in a boat with my kids, and a boat smacked us (of course try to protect my kids as much as possible from the impact) but having access to my bow, and if the driver was attempting to leave the scene, I guess my protective instinct would be to ____ the driver. Unfortunately, my warning shots make no noise. Anyway, sorry but that is just me.

Anyway, glad no one was hurt and it turned out o'tay!

PS. Sometimes, parents dont want to accept that their kids are a reflection of themselves!!!

I have to side with Proverbs a little bit here. He was thinking about the protection of the kids, which I think most fathers would agree is the most important issue.

It's not hard to see that the world is becoming more and more bleak on a dialy basis....look back at the last 50 years and see how things that used to be unacceptable are now part of everyday life.

My mother used to tell me that my father would swear up and down if he ever saw someone trying to get us to do drugs, or trying to sell us drugs, that he'd rot in prison with a clear conscience before he'd ever allow himself to fail as a father.

I'm amazed at how protective I've been of my wife lately, now that we have a little one on the way. I don't think it makes me less of a Christian to protect my family.

Not that it matters, but even if I had a sidearm in the boat with me, anyone who knows how quickly things can happen on the water will tell you that you probably wouldn't have had enough time to actually dig your pistol out of the rod locker, take aim, and fire a few warning shots. Plus, they wouldn't have heard it anyways...inboards are too loud.

I see his point, but I think his fingers typed faster than his brain interpreted, as he steadily admitted. I think we all have a little of that in us....doesn't make us less Christian-like (for those of us who are).

If it were me... I wouldn't want to shoot and possibly kill the driver of a boat that was coming at me. What good would it do? The boat isn't going to stop because the driver is dead... it's going to most likely still hit me and then afterwards go out of control and cause another accident. If you were to fire upon the boat, would it even be considered self-defense? The driver of the boat would be coming at you without his knowledge and afterwards he would be too "freaked-out" and scared fleeing the scene that he was no longer a threat to you.

Manners and respect seem to have all but gone out the window as well.

It's not just the kids... This is a SERIOUS problem with all ages here in Texas... Just look around you on the streets, it's not just the 20 something crowd that's cutting you off, nearly running you off the road, or trying to swamp your boat on the lake... I had a 50+ year old idiot in a sailboat within 10 feet of my bass tracker, and then a 40 something idiot in a 30+ foot cruiser nearly knock me off the boat in the same day...

One thing I've noticed in Texas is that courtesy and manners is lacking across the board, not just the kids.

Maybe next time I'm in a boat I'll reconsider packing my Sig Sauer 9mm plus two 20 round clips for a grand total of 56 rounds of Cor-Bon 9mm hollow points. Because if some wacko came at me and my kids I'd only be thinking about my kids and I'd have opened up! Personally I think people in a situation like that should be let completely off for letting a few go downrange but with the way things are today I'd have gone to prison. Even Christians believe in self defense. Especially defense of family.

Good luck in even remembering you have a firearm in a situation like that. The guy who's boat was hit barely got a basic description of the boat and he was actually there. I doubt he was thinking of much more than just protecting his kids, let alone having the mental power to think about pulling a gun and firing...

The guy who left his kid in the car, got zero prison time and zero jail time. It happened last year in carrollton. He just got sentenced last month and has to serve 400 hrs of community service and pay a very small fine. I bet the kids life insurance cover the fine.

I guess the point is, mistakes happen. It is what people do after the mistake to make sure it never happens again and to attempt to make things right.

The law is not on the victims side.

MODERATORS, can we close this thing up. This post started as a "Call to Action" for all TFF'ers. The Tff'ers went out looking, got this thing done, and now justice is being served. It does no good to anyone to contemplate the "Justice/Revenge" that would've been meeted out "Had it happened to me and my kids".

The true meaning of the original post has been lost. The outcome that we all hoped for has been lost. The outcome for Peetrav and his Family (miracle, to say the least) has been lost.

Let us not ponder on about what "I'd have done this with my...". I've kept up with this post since it started, watched it through all of the people that were looking, and thanked the Lord when the culprits wre found and brought to Justice. The power of this Forum has been proven. Instead of wasting it on typing on about "Who I'd shoot with my 30-06 if they did this......" why don't we get together and petition the powers that be about a MANDATORY BOATER'S SAFETY COURSE.

We've proven that this course of action works. Let's put this power towards something useful.

JM2C!

I promise you can see what's in front of the boat while surfing. A properly weighted boat for surfing will not impair driver vision.

And a properly driven boat won't run over anybody but we all know that NEVER happens in the real world. You also assume that everybody that has a boat knows how to operate it the right way. just my opnion...Jim
