In my opinion using a fishery "sustainability" argument in his never ending whine about FFS is pretty sad. Its pretty clear that this technological advancement has psychologically broken this poor guy. This non argument has been used by the left behind since the paper sonar graph came out. He says none of us can answer the question of how FFS helps the sustainability of the fishery yet none of us ever suggested that it did. The invention of the trolling motor didnt help with the sustainability of the fishery.......is he going to quit using his now? Is he going to suggest that we give up side scan or mega 360 next? You can cast at fish you can see or you can cast blind. You now have that choice. Dont like it.....dont use it. The technology is available to all and its not going back. Its only a matter of time before a pair of augmented reality glasses are available that will allow you to see in real time while looking out on the water all returns under the water from your 360 degree FFS. This poor guy will end up in the looney bin when that arrives.

It's no different than guide's (any species) running trips 4-6 days a week. Let's just think about crappie, if a guide has 4-5 people catching their limits on most trips that could have an effect. And I know plenty that could take you out on a half day trip and limit your group. This has been going on for years before digital side/down imaging came around.
Will FFS eventually be banned on the pro tours and then trickle down into club/jackpot level? It's quite possible I believe the pro musky or walleye tour have already put it in place. But at the same time if you put the time in on the water you can still catch a 30lb+ sack off Sam Rayburn consistently without FFS. Being able to see the fish is nice but they don't always bite. It actually gets quite frustrating when you can watch them follow your bait and never strike at it.

FFS is not gonna be banned by BASS or MLF. The electronics companies are firmly entrenched as tour sponsors and with them holding market shares in depthfinders, trolling motors and anchors/poles they are too big to risk pissing off. They contribute too much to the bottom line of both tours.



I truly don't get all the drama over FFS. Use it if you want, don't if you don't. Maybe I am doing it all wrong g but I just worry about what happens in my boat. I ain't worrying what the next guy is doing.

If this guy had a LS sponsor he would be pumping them like no tomorrow.

Randy has always been out in "Left Field" even when he was at his peak 25 yrs ago in BASS. Don't expect him to come back to center anytime soon.

LOP crappie fishing is a great case study. That lake sees tons of LS pressure year round with multiple guides everyday of the year. Went out this weekend and saw literally thousands of fish, so next year looks promising too. We got 27 to bite Saturday, on fish like crappie in the southern U.S. I think it may actually help by thinning the herd some.

Name me one thing that the modern day baitcaster does to improve the "sustainability" of our fisheries. Or side imaging or 2D sonar or flashers or hooks. Is he going to stop using all of these?

I made it about 3 min and then came up with my own…

The 10:1:1 gear ratio is going to kill our fisheries. It allows guys to make too many flips in an 8 hour day. More flips means more bass being eaten which mean the future of our fisheries are doomed.

Randy is just trying to make himself relevant since his fishing performance has dwindled to nothing. He complains about everything! And I mean everything!! He recently did a YouTube video about the music played in Bass Pro Stores and how loud the volume is. He also recently called Sexy Shad the WORST crankbait color ever made. I believe KVD won more money on that color than Randy did in his entire career. And never forget when he threw a fit and wanted some anglers arrested by Florida Fish and Game for running through coveys of coots in a tournament. He is born to beesh, and he will continue. He will never win the FFS fight. You never go backwards with technology. You just adapt and continue to learn it. IMO, he is doing more damage to what "career" he has left than he is good. I don't know how he keeps the few sponsors he has honestly.

I watch his channel.


I enjoy the parts to where he takes a file rasp to a lure. Starts shaving the plastic into little shards that fall like snow. As he's describing, 'This is what you do'. Fish prefer a lure that looks like it was dragged across Wal-Mart parking lot.


Then the soft baits. Cigarette lighter, melt them together. Or....he pulls that file out again and starts tenderizing the things. Saying again, 'The fish like the look, this is TOP secret'.


Then in another video, he describes bass evolving to where they won't hit on a black jig. Then the next video, he raves about the same damn lure.


I personally don't know the guy but he comes across as a loon. Him and his old rusty, rasp file.

I must be getting old. The Grapevine BPS store needs more light in the fishing dept!

A leftist that looks at the world from a hole dug for a septic tank. I really cannot think of one thing he has said that has not already been covered.
He is way, way past a creditable angler that can give anyone good ideas as to catching fish. He still thinks he is back in 1985 or so.
I just think the "woke" manifestation has awaken him to go out an damn everything that has been made and used past 1990.
I cannot understand why Jonny uses him on his Fish the moment site, if anything Randy brings that site down and less creditable.

I know I'm getting old. Every BPS store I've been in needs MORE light.
