...You have ever caught a sunfish ? Yesterday fishing Amistad we tied off to have some lunch and I cast my jig out into 72 fow and just let it sink. It took over a minute for my jig to hit the bottom. I crawled it along the bottom and got a bite.
After reeling for what seemed like a few minutes, up comes this little guy.

What was it doing down so deep? Gives a whole new meaning to "wintering holes". I would have never guessed sunfish can swim down and live in that deep water.

There are a lot of very deep lakes where I have fished. Canyon, Travis, Amistad, and Buchanan. Several years ago I was fishing Travis in about 70 to 80 feet of water and caught a couple of Bluegill. I was using worms with a heavier sinker. I flipped my bait into the water it fell at least 50 to 60 feet. Never hit the bottom. I caught several nice eating size Bluegill suspended in about 10 to 20 feet from the bottom. thumb

Side Note: My friend and I had tied his boat to a tree on a canyon ledge and we were taking a break when I decided to make a few cast just to see if I could catch a fish where we were at. It worked to my surprise. hmmm
