Although I voted diesel, it would have to be one of the older gens before they came out with all this DEF carp. Everywhere I go, people ask me to buy my truck. I just tell them that truck will be my casket, as it's going to the grave with me. Had a kid in Homey D parking lot come up to me and offer me $10K cash right then. No deal. It has more sentimental value than (just about) any cash offer. It was the last half year they made these old Dodge's with that motor. THAT BUMPER LOOKS BENT.

I couldn't justify owning a diesel but somehow thought the 8.1 was a better option. The 6.0 is lacking, 5.3 is weak, and the 6.2 wasn't an option in the years I was looking at.

If I ever quit the cattle business and have nothing heavy to haul, my diesel will be sold the next day. They are nice if they have a job. But wouldn’t have one if I didn’t need it.

Bought my first Diesel this February and I love it. Use it to tow the 5th wheel and or the boat on weekends. It stays in the shop during the week. Got the King Ranch and I'm still finding out all the bells and whistles. Took me 6 months to find out it has a massager in the front seats. Wife loves it and insists we take it on long road trips. Simply amazing how much power and quickness Diesels have now a days. I had ordered the new Chevy with the big 6.6 gasser engine and then when it came in I backed out and got the Diesel, glad I did.

My last diesel was the 7.3 in my F250 sold way back when - put over 100k miles on it. Only problem was its uncanny appetite for alternators. For several weeks, I struggled with this decision as I needed a new-to-me replacement for my 5.3 Vortec approaching end-of-life at just over 300K.
Given my intended purposes (rural daily driver, light short-haul towing, possible 5th wheel RV), I couldn’t rationalize the financial risks associated with the various diesels. Given my mileage of approximately 6000 annually, I was not particularly interested in MPG but more in long-term reliability. Another “total cost of ownership” consideration was that I’m an above average DIY gas engine mechanic with zero diesel wrenching knowledge or experience.
I just purchased an ‘08 V10 - averaging between 12-13 MPG…

My 22 F250 7.3 gas pulls just as good as the previous 16 2500 6.6 diesel. More payload available and a mpg difference of 1 mpg in favor of the diesel.

Toss up between the Toyota V6 Turbo or GM 3.0 Diesel. I'll cross this road when I have to part ways with my 05 Duramax, but she's still running strong. Toyota Tundra owners are having some issues with the new tundras. I’d let them get the bugs worked out. From reading the Facebook groups, the new ones are not exhibiting the high quality that Toyota is known for.
