Well, it's not totally finished. I am waiting on a remote so I start and stop the unit.

It started out in an 50 cal ammo but but it sounded more like someone beating on a barrel. I used it for about four hours on Lake Conroe deadsticking for Hybrids. I found some decent to large size area of fish, but never stuck a hook in anything. I got bit maybe 5 times and that bite turned off after about 1 minute.

I'm new at deadsticking so getting shut out is not new while deadsticking. AND I HATE getting shut out. Hence my creation of a thumper.

So, this one is made from ½ plywood with a double thickness in the bottom.

I have a question, that I have not seen answered before in any thumper video. Do you guys fasten them to you boat floor or leave them loose?

I just leave it sitting on the bottom of the boat. No need to strap it down...

I've watched several videos (where I got the parts needed) and no one ever said anything about fastening it down or not.

I have a tunnel hull style boat, when it sit not moving the entire bottom of the boat sits in the water. Im planning on putting it in the center console.

Does everyone run theirs on the house battery or a battery dedicated to the thumper?

If your big motor is 4 cycle, run thumper cables to that battery. If not run them to one of the troller batteries. A designated lithium battery 20 ah is ideal .

I have 2 - 12v deep cycle batteries hooked in parallel (12v total output) so I might have plenty of output there. As much as I like the reduced fumes of a 4-stroke I know the charging system is nothing like what I had on my Opti-Max engines!

No need to run a separate battery. I’ve run my home made thumper for years on the cranking battery on my boat and never had an issue with it drawing the battery down. Nice job on the build! Good luck on the fishing.

I use these and mount them in the thumper. They last 6-8 hrs which is about all I last nowdays.

Did you add the rubber boot to your hammer because is was too loud?

That is actually a flooring hammer. I was wanting a deeper “thud” sound instead of the “clack” of a metal hammer on wood, and I wanted it to have direct contact with the bottom of the boat. Not sure if it works any better that the other designs, but it does work.

My first one looked like a frankenstein monster with duct tape... 1000+ units later, it looks a little more polished
