That's awesome. She worked at my dentist office growing up and I used to hang around for hours talking fishing with her. Oh and I'm 41yo and still set the hook that way most of the time. Can't tell you how many bass I've set the hook on and flew straight into the boat. My 15yo son hates it. He gets hit when I miss sometimes.

I set the hook on a fish so hard it flew out of the water and broke my windshield. Stupid little fish.

I used to fish with a buddy that would reel down until his rod tip touched the water, put his foot on the gunnel, then give it everything he had. Idk how many times a 3/4 lb. bass would come flying out of the water over his head and land in the water on the other side of the boat. Well... I guess it was as many times as he caught one since we were on Waxahachie. Pretty much every fish that bit was about that size.

If by 'living the dream' you mean still utilizing the same equipment and hook set technique then no. I like to think I have evolved and become wiser through the years with approach, practice, and equipment. I still don't subscribe to these guys who feel the need to throw a 6.5" worm with a telephone pole and airline cable.
