Will the Elite 12 ti2 work with active target? I don’t believe so: Carbon, Live, FS and new Pro

I have an Elite 9 ti on front of boat and I am going to upgrade to a 9 Live and another 9 Live that will be active target only. Any reason to connect the active target unit to my nmea network? It will be strictly used for the active target. Only have one cord run to front from center console.

The AT pointer will be accurate if used with a point1, so I’d connect it to nmea, assuming you have a point1.

I do have a point 1. Use it for heading only on front. How would it know which way the trolling motor is pointed. It’s a mini kota saltwater hand control.

It just does, I can’t tell you how or why. But if your graph already has the point1 hooked up, that’s all you need. Nothing on the AT has a nmea connection.

I was told by a high-level development staff member at Lowrance that the AT has a magnetic sensor. The problem with displaying the pointer on the screen on your boat accurately is resolved by the unit knowing the boat's orientation on the magnetic compass. Example: the AT is aimed due East (90 degrees), the Live 9 doesn't know where to put the icon for the pointer. With the addition of heading for the boat (let's say 90 deg. also), then the unit will display a pointer facing straight up on the screen. A second example: AT again aiming 90 deg., but you boat facing 180 deg. From that, the unit will display a pointer icon to the left on your Live 9 screen.

Does anyone know what's the latest software release number for the HDS Carbon and Live? If I'm not current and behind 2 or more releases can I just update to the latest one or do I need to upload each previous update?
Sorry for the "newbie" questions but unfortunately that's what I am with these HDS units
Thanks....Richard

At Lowrance.com, select "help and support" then "software updates." You can then select your unit from the drop-down menu. Be SURE you select the "en-us" version of software (to get US English language).
You do NOT have to load each revision. You can jump to the latest one - it will contain everything that has been updated in the life of the product model.

OK GUYS, I HAVE A LIVE 12 ON CONSOLE AND LIVE 9 ON FRONT OF BOAT NETWORKED VIA NMEA. POINT 1 IS ON BACK OF BOAT OVER REAR TRANSDUCER. I SET CONSOLE TO GPS VIA POINT 1 AND HEADING VIA PONT 1. FRONT IS SET TO GPS VIA UNIT AND HEADING VIA POINT 1. WHEN I TURN OFF EVERYTHING AND IT REBOOTS, IT IS CHANGING THE SETTINGS BY ITSELF BACK TO GPS VIA THE HEAD UNITS. I CHANGED THE ONE ON THE FRONT BACK TO GPS VIA UNIT AND HEADING VIA POINT 1 AND IT AUTOMATICALLY CHANGED CONSOLE TO THE SAME AS THE FRONT UNIT.
HOW DO I GET IT TO SAVE THE CHANGES, AND NOT CHANGE BY ITSELF?
CAN YOU DELETE EVERYTHING YOU ARE NOT GOING TO USE IN YOUR NETWORK SETTINGS DATA SOURCES?

One possibility is that the units are not seeing the Point-1 when they boot. If that happened, they will likely default the source setting to "internal GPS". Is there any chance you are powering up the units without powering up the NMEA network? (Remember, NMEA has its' own power connection that may be off when the units are looking for that optional source.)
As to the setting changing on the console unit also, you are probably making a global change. You need to select "this unit only" in the setting you choose.

All units are wired to a switch. So point 1 and Nmea powers up when switch turned on. Then others are powered on individually with their power buttons. And yes, I think I was changing the global setting and not local.
Thanks for the info

I recently bought a used Hook Reveal 7x TS that I use on a variety of jon boats (not permanently mounted). My sonar image on both the dedicated sonar page and the Downscan/Fish Reveal view has never looked right. Instead of seeing normal sonar returns and arches, the whole screen looks like it's just got diffused dots across the screen. The best way I can describe it is if it were showing just sediment suspended in the water column. The information for water temp, depth, and the downscan image all work fine. Is it possible that just the sonar part of the Triple Shot transducer is bad? Is there something else (user error) that I should try before replacing it? I've already made sure the transducer cable is plugged in all the way...because it wasn't the first time I used it and had zero sonar info.
Thanks for any insights.

Yes, it is entirely possible for the 200 kHz crystal to fail independently of other components embedded in the "Triple Shot." Try a different transducer temporarily as a test if you know or can find someone's boat with a compatible transducer, which should not be difficult. (The standard 200 kHz only transducer should work with your unit.) Keep in mind that the crystals in transducers are somewhat fragile. A bump "just a little bit too hard" in portable handling can cause failure.
