The over flow?

Your truck has the same thing in metal. It helps relieve pressure while filling the tank. But the tank itself, it's sealed. Vapors are recycled. Any vent on the gas cap is vacuum release.


I still vote too much coffee.

Exactly. It relieves pressure while FILLING the tank. Yes. Most every vehicle has one. If it is clogged, it doesn’t release pressure and the tank will try to spit the fuel back out. Haha. No coffee.

How would it clog?


Most modern gas tanks have a plastic ball sitting on a cradle within the filler pipe. Free flow gas floats it. Sticking a hose down the pipe. It's blocked.


I guess if you've paid $50 grand for a boat. You'd expect the security feature. So some punk isn't siphoning your high octane fuel out your high dollar boat.


Others have suggested the nozzle upside down. I'm on their side.

I have to turn the nozzle upside down and fill it slow. I was told that when I bought the boat. If I try to fill it the normal way it kicks off in 1-2 seconds.

To the OP, I had the same problem and eventually discovered a plastic spill spout broken off and lodged in my gas fill tube. Present from the previous owner. After I pulled it out, no more issues.

How much is a labor hour? $65-$125?


For these guys to touch your boat. What does it usually cost?

I have no idea. It’s not gonna be cheap. Sadly, I work in a shop that could easily do the swap, but I don’t know how to do it at my shop and validate the warranty. I also don’t know if they could even sell me the motor out the door.

I would be swapping a 4-stroke Yamaha for a 4-stroke Yamaha. Should be an easy swap. Four bolts and a rigging tube full of hoses and harnesses. I figure it would take about 3-4 hours. But….I dunno.

Sadly all outboard manufacturers except maybe Suzuki (not sure about them) require a dealer to install for warranty.
