Devil’s advocate here…..

Would you have said similar things in defense of Mike Long when the rumors began?

This!

Gary, I have all the respect in the world for you and your accomplishments in this industry. And send my condolences on the loss of your Dad.
But I stand behind my comments in the past 100%. I’ve learned over the years “where there’s smoke, there’s fire”
And that’s normally proven over time.

Did Gary spend a lot of time with Mike Long? Did Mike long have video after video of his catches?

He could tell what the biggest one was and focused on catching that one. It was pretty amazing what it took to get one to bite. First the bait had to come within 6” of the tree to get any interest. A foot away forget about it. Tough with the wind. It might take several times by to get interest. 95% of what he caught followed the bait 20 Ft or more before they bit. Maybe 3 all day bit at the tree. Some times it took 3 more more follows out before the fish bit. Some fish never bit even though they followed it out 10 times. He would vary the cadence according to how the fish was acting on Livescope. He did it all day long with zero breaks other than when looking for the next ones or changing locations. I mean all day long. He fished 3 locations all day. After a while I could tell about when he was going to catch one by how he was working the bait.

Also the guy I drew the next day fished the same trees in the top of the water column. Just throwing at them. Zero bites doing it. Zero.

Super nice guy. Extremely talented. He will perennially be in the top 1/3rd of the Elite Series with his skill and ability to fish at a ridiculous pace all, day. I have rode with quite a few over they years and he definitely has what it takes. At the weigh in I talked to his dad who fishes Opens. He said .”yeah Patrick loves that Livescope , I just can’t bring myself to do it, it’s too intense all the time. Not my style ”. I agreed no way I could do it. Maybe In my 20’s.

I am confused is Jones on the Elites? Or was this post mistakenly posted in a thread about Jones?

I would like to make a comment on "would I have stood behind Mike Long" or something to this effect. Many guys know I worked with Mike Long years ago before any of the negative stuff came up. How we parted!! Mike fished a team event and was asked to take a polygraph. He refused!! I called him and we argued about this. I told him he had to take a poly as it was part of the rules. He still refused and I insisted. We parted ways right then. This was many years ago (I'm guessing 7-8 years before all the [censored] came out). I stand behind doing the right thing. Please remember at this point he was still the big bass king getting Bass Master press and everything. It did not matter, we parted ways. I never fished with Mike Long ever. Mike did not guide. Mike did not post videos of cast to catch.

I've spent many days (probably about 30 days or more and had invites for 100's of days) in the boat with Josh. I've caught a lot of big fish with Josh and watched him catch many also. Josh has many hundreds (probably 1000's) of guide trips showing people what he does and catches giants. He's shown many fisherman like Jimmy Houston (Josh is a good friend to Jimmy and they fish together) how he finds and catches giants. Josh has a lot of videos with cast to catch. Josh went to Idaho this year and caught numerous 7 and 8 pound plus smallmouth using live sonar. Josh went up north this year and caught giant Muskies, again all on video. He doesn't just fish Ivey. He does have a love affair with Ivey and who can blame him, look at the fish he catches there. But he can catch big ones anywhere.

I haven't spoken to Josh on this but I know for a fact he'd take JP on a trip. I think ,at least hope that JP has everyone's respect on this site, and he can fish with Josh anytime. Again, I have not spoken to Josh or JP about this. Would this shut up some of the haters here? JP you want a fishing trip? If I'm free I'll come along and harass both you and Josh all day. We'll have a blast!!!

Let me get this straight... There can now no longer be reasoned discussion or questions raised about someone who places themselves in the limelight of the public space demonstrating sometimes questionable means or claims without attacking the persons involved in said discussion as "Haters" and "Jealous?" One more example of the documented decline of public discourse. To be clear, I am not talking about slander or character assassination. I am talking about reasonable questions or statements based upon observations and reported/reasonably suspected history of the individual that is the topic of discussion!

Robby Rose tried to defeat me in an event that pitted my skills at catching large bass versus his skills at catching large bass.

He did not succeed!
