I’ve been doing it for 150,000 miles on my current diesel. Runs like new good mileage no oil consumption oil analysis show very low wear numbers. Don’t fire it up and drag race it, just drive easy, won’t hurt a thing and arms up way faster.

I start mine, a Ford and a Chevy. I let them idle till the computer drops the rpm to normal. That takes about 5 seconds. I then drive it old lady style for a couple of miles then it's normal "my" style driving.

Yeah, the oils of today flow so well that it only takes seconds to get it flowing. I usually go 20 seconds or so, then drive like a old lady, just like Bill suggests. Once tempts come up to normal, drive like a scalded dog.

My boat motor on the other hand states let the motor warm up for five minutes in temps below 40 deg. f. The boat motors uses a much thicker oil than my Jeep, the water in the river is much colder than the water in the radiator, and the boat motor rev. at much higher RPM than the Jeep. Therefore, the boat motor need much more time to warm up.

My chainsaw needs 30 seconds to warm up at high idle before kicking it down to low idle no matter the temperature.
