There are many reasons for using my system of employing cloth bags over neoprene. First & most importantly THE COST! I've been doing this for years and the bags protect the reel's finish from chipping. Also retards the breakdown of lubrication as well. The worst scenario is having the edge of the spool's lip getting nicked or scratched against something. This'll cause line damage when the line rubs against that area.
Since i don't drink i bought 180 drawstring 750ml 8-9in bags off eBay for only $85! My most massive spinning reels can easily fit these bags (just the handle stays outside). On my smaller spinners 5K and under the handle will fit inside the bag as well. Just recently Amazon has just started carrying these empty bags.

I'm retired now but use to travel for business 90% of the time and I accumulated a few bags.....good god man, now I know why I don't drink. When I saw this post, I went looking and had to ask my wife "what ever happen to them bags?".....she laughed at me and said she saw them in my office....OMG at least 50 bags, ya'll want a few, I'll share some bags. If them bags could talk!
