That said. Personally, I probably wouldn't do anything right now about them. Those are summer weed you're seeing and will die off soon. I would get a good pre emergent down if you haven't already. Timing is a little late for fall pre emergent but temps have been warm and it's better than doing nothing. If you haven't fertilized in the last 45-60 days now would be a good time to do a soil test and come up with a 2023 game plan. I would save an Atrizine app for winter clean up late February to March as winter is when we see the most broadleaf weeds like Dandi, Henbit and so on.

Unless you have standing water in that area I doubt it's a water issue. Probably some type of fungal issue or a transplant stress issue. Probably not a big deal. Can you post pics of the top and the bottom of the leaves? When you planted it did you make sure and not to plant it too deep so the root flare is exposed? See link. #1 issue with people planting trees is they plant them way too deep. Did you fertilize it at all after planting? Pics will help a lot. Also if you can get a pic of the base how it's planted. https://twri.tamu.edu/media/5431/trees-january-14-2020_reorg2.pdf

Not end of the world stuff. It will be fine. If you did plant too deep you can scrape the top layer of soil way to expose the flare. We're mid Nov so just rock with it besides exposing the flare. Let it go into winter and don't be overly concerned with it. See how it does in spring.

Regarding tree planting--Three things I learned from Malcom Beck(RIP) at Gardenville in San Antonio and, The Dirt Doctor; 1. DO NOT bury the root flare. 2. Dig a square hole (yea I know sounds funny but it's true) 3. Go back with the majority of the native soil--as stated above โโ. I've planted many trees over the years using this formula w/100% success rate.

But it drives me insane to see how landscape companies plant trees. They are almost always planted way too deep with 3" of soil covering the flare then a huge mound of mulch on top of that. ![bang bang](/forums/images/graemlins/default/bang.gif)

I was trimming bushes and one had a wasp nest in it. They started stinging my guide hand and naturally yanked it away and the blade hit it when I did. Iโll check the bushes for wasp nest now. All healed. But I can only bend it about half way now. Best part I waited about 45 minutes to,go to the ER. I was waiting for it to stop bleeding because I planned on super gluing it lol. Once it stopped bleeding some I could tell it was too jagged to glue.
