I feel I should preface this by saying I’m a bass/crappie guy, definitely not an experienced catfish-fisherman other than farm ponds. But when family visits we usually load the kids up in the boat and go catch catfish here on Fork. I will drop 10-15lb of range cubes on a random tree or two and we come back the next day to fish them with Stubbys cheese bait or a garlic dough bait. We catch a bunch most of the time but they’re all tiny. On days we catch 100 or more catfish we are lucky to have 5-10 that are big enough to clean. Does anybody have any tips to increase our chances of catching 2+lb cats? Thanks!

Those little catfish will drive you nuts. They're like underwater grackle birds.

Over the years I've seen live bait being the better option. Back in the day, folks would use goldfish and call them baby carp. When they were cheaper...

Mud Dogs AKA salamander.

Smaller baits, grasshoppers. The bigger ones about an inch and a half long.

That bait your buying is Play-Doh with some flavoring added. Baby catfish love it. Not so much, the big ones. They want a more natural bait. Something the baby catfish won't eat.

Honestly, you might drive a little bit further and go to Tawakoni instead if possible. That would increase your chances of catching better catfish by miles being that it has blues.

This is what my clients normally catch. Stubby’s Cheesebait and range cubes just like you are doing. Takes more than a day of baiting holes to bring the better fish in usually. And Grasshopper guy, the bait is not play doh with flavoring added.

I need reply notifications.

One thing of the internet I don't take as the gospel, is pictures.

Looks like you set a trotline out on Friday. Checked it on Saturday.

Ok. I'm not knocking Play-Doh. It's a dollar for the cup sized container. Try it with some Berkeley scent added. Best of my luck on scents has been with squid. Stanky Stinky.

And you can pick the colors of Play-Doh. Pink seems popular.

Grasshopper do you even care how you sound? Basically calling littlewheel a liar is not good. I am not associated at all with Stubbys other than as a customer. It is by far the best catfish bait that I have ever used. Littlewheel and Stubby are straight up good folks and would not lead someone astray.

I'm not sure how you get that point of view.

He shows me an awesome catch. What I see using a trotline, which will result in the same effect.

......

A big majority of this website. Doesn't own the boat to accomplish that.

I hate commercials.

You need to search Littlewheel and look at years of good catfish catches by his customers before you start spouting off.
Stubby's bait works very well, I am also a customer and deliver in what it will catch.

You need more than reply notifications. You need to discern truth when it’s presented to you and stop making up fairy tales. I’ve fished with Littlewheel several times and NO fish were caught on trotlines. ALL were caught with Stubby’s on a rod and reel. Sure you’ll catch some small fish, but we also caught some 4 to 8 lb. fish. It’s quite a bit more than “play-doh”

I'll also vouch for Stubby's bait and littlewheel, I've fished with both and all they use is Stubby's bait and rod and reel. I also put a three person limit of 75 fish in the boat on Richland Chambers about 3 weeks ago.
. All using Stubby and rod and reel.
