A friend of mine; Steve Dana, caught the very first double digit fish out of Caney at a tournament he and I were fishing in. it was a 10.05 I believe. Most of the timber was still standing but dead when we fished that tournament. With in a year or two folks were starting to catch all those state record fish out of it. I haven't been on either of those lakes in about 30 years or better but I'm planning on coming back this spring and spending an entire week fishing those two, the river, and anything else I can squeeze in, probably Bussy Brake, and some of the Mississippi River oxbow lakes. On a side note , I don't know if you saw the results of the MLF tournament that was fished in north Louisiana this past spring on D'arbonne, Caney, and Bussey Brake but they absolutely wrecked them on Bussey and Caney. They broke records for biggest fish ever caught in an MLF event at both lakes.

I've been wanting to check it out and hope to get over there before spring. In March of this year a guy came close to breaking the state record catching a 3.6 lb crappie out of there!
