Had a tournament yesterday In This lovely weather
Started about 7 Got to my first primary spot and couldn’t get on it as someone was already there
Changed game plans and had a limit of about 17 lbs in 45 minutes
Ran to a second place. And fought the wind for about an hour for a couple more culls
Started the motor and could tell the battery was lugging

Got to my 3 place and started fishing culled 2 more times and then My front graph started acting funny so I just turned it off

After a couple of hours Went to start and move again and nothing. Apparently cranking my battery had enough
Swapped the cables over to a TM battery and could crank with no problem but accessories wires couldn’t be rerouted

Lost two fish in the well before I realized it and kicked the other 3 back
Put it back on the trailer and called it a day without weighing in anything

Hate it when you toss back a check in a tournament

Oh well on to fight the Black Friday’s crowd to find a new cranking battery…

Normally do but they were in my tin boat

Thought I might be able to start it and move the cables back to the starting battery and leaving it idling for a bit
But the ol HPDI said no as soon as I pulled it

Batteries always go right back on the charger after every trip and the night before before. And that’s almost weekly So I guess the 3 year old thing gave up and said NO

I've never had a cranking battery make it three years. But I always carry a new set of jumper cables. Thirty minutes of running the big motor probably would have gave you enough charge to finish the day.

I had that similar scenario two weekends in a row. The difference is I have a dedicated cranking battery. The house battery is only making it till 1:00-1:30 with live well pumps, lights, radio, three graphs. Two weekends ago, to keep my fish alive, I shut off everything but the live well. This past weekend, I got smarter put everything in standby except the FFS. Today I was just there goofing around and trying other stuff. Played the radio and graphs all day without losing power. I guess the live wells pull the most current.

The past 2 winters have been a little rough on batteries for sure.

Sounds like a fun day until it wasn't, you'll get em next time out!

Carry a lithium jump start pack.About $100 gets a good one that will crank the big motor when the cranking battery is dead.

That is one of them days you just have to sit back and laugh about. Really nothing else you can do. You know you had the skills to do well…but it just wasn’t meant to be on that day. It happens.

Been there, not a lot of fun, I was fortunate enough that my big motor would start litterally on one revolution once it had been started and ran. My electronics took me down too. Bought a new battery. As was said, deep cycle cranking batteries usually don't last that long. My new rig has a Minn Kota charging system; hope that makes a difference, never had that before now. I do keep it plugged in all the time.
