I would like some opinions regarding these. Assume price is the same.

I will be using it for navigation, down and side imaging. I will also have it flush mounted.

There is some incredible things coming that will work on HDS Live, Lots of expansion and tech that will work on the HDS Lives and the New HDS at the end of the year. The details will be released to the public on Dec 1st. Standby for your best options.

Will this new tech work with the Carbons? My units are only six months old.

I probably will never network this unit, so if these features are in regards to networking or Bluetooth features, that would not matter to me.
I am most concerned with navigation, side and down imaging as well as ease of use and durability.
Anyone switch from one to the other?

I don't know much about the Garmin but own newer Lowrance graphs. I absolutely love them. The touch screen makes things so much faster. They are very user friendly. They have the Lives on discount right now. You could probably get a 12" for the price of the Garmin now.

They finally dropped the BF ad, if you can get one.

You are right and I could get either for $900. Splitting hairs here. I appreciate all the feedback so far.
