Look into damsel flies. Nymphs, adults/dries, you can find them in any Texas river any time of the year, and in many colors.

That's all I got. There's all the normal junk that I know of: caddis, cranes, mayflies, etc, etc (and MOSQUITOS!). But when and where and what rivers is beyond scope of many here in Texas, me included. It's kind of a paradox really, me being a 'fly' fisher and knowing nothing of local flies.

You might fair better talking to some university people however. If any here know more I'd be interested as well.

There is little entomology involved with the vast majority of rivers, with the grand exception of the GUADALUPE RIVER. This is my experience. A great learning lesson in that river came from Rob Woodruff a very long time ago.

I went to one of their entomology classes a few years back in Frisco and the owner Peter Stitcher is very knowledgeable.
