Ish leaving doesn’t surprise me, he’s a big bass specialist not a 50 fish a day guy. Bobby Lane caught me off guard because of the success he’s had in the MLF format. Either way pretty cool for the professionals to have options, hope these guys are able to re qualify for the Elites.

Agreed. Ish does best when he finds the fish that puts him in the "If I can get 5 bites a day, I will be competitive." position.

I was super surprised to see Zack Birge on the MLF roster. He's been very critical of MLF over the last year. He clearly was trying to qualify through the opens last year while still fishing MLF, but it didn't happen. I haven't compared schedules, but I would guess with the Opens format change it will be hard to fish both the BPT and Opens.

Leave or fish the Opens this year?, because the BPT roster has already been released, only 2 left Ish and Bobby Lane. Everyone else is still fishing BPT, including [Linked Image]

A couple took medical exemptions and dropped out. They cut several as well for underperformance. You can look it up.

Yeah! They cut me out! I was always last on tournament day, didn't pay my entries, and started beef with Mercer.

Then I woke up.

Heard an interview with Bobby Lane on BTL this week. His sole motivation is he wants to win the Classic. Said that's pretty much the only thing he hasn't done in fishing and he wants that before he hangs it up.

Didn’t Ish quit during the MLF event on Ray Roberts several years ago? If I remember correctly, the format was new and he was angry because it was a dinkfest and not “real” tournament fishing. The tv broadcast kept him on the leaderboard but didn’t mention him leaving.

Makes perfect sense… hope he gets a classic win.

I believe that was the implication and I think it is zero? I could be wrong. Seems like leaving BASS for mlf isn't a thing, but leaving mlf for BASS is.

Low and behold Edwin Evers went straight to a creek where bass were schooling and proceeded to catch almost 30lbs of bass in one period and win the tournament. You could easily see that Ish was shaken and extremely angry. I've never seen a tournament director change the format in the middle of a tournament ever.I'm quite sure I'm not the only one here who remembers that. I followed his career for a while and it took him quite a while to recover from that fiasco. I don't know if he protested Edwins win or not, never heard much about and MLF was very hush hush about the whole thing. I know he did win a bassmaster elite out west a few years later, and had a pretty good sponsor deal with Riverside lures, but haven't heard much about him on the circuit lately.
