Bill Dance introduced me to bass fishing Roland Martin introduced me into the commercial side of fishing Jimmy Houston introduced me into having fun at all times on the water KVD introduced me into the competition of bass fishing Rick Clunn & Hank Parker introduced me into the zen of bass fishing Wheeler taught me how to grind it out and learn about everything you can
All of these names are attributed to why I love this sport.

Ask a fisherman who was the greatest fisherman of all time and they will probably say Roland Martin, Bill Dance or the incredible Kevin Van Dam. Others might include lesser known fishing celebrities local to their areas, but few would mention Elwood “Buck” Perry, from Hickory, North Carolina.

KVD is the GOAT right now. I think if Wheeler keeps up his pace he will be the GOAT by the time he is done. I think wheeler is the best pro on the planet right now.

Bill, Hank and KVD for me.
I think it's a tie between Bill and KVD though.

Clunn, Van Dam, Thrift and Wheeler are the 4 anglers that are above and beyond more talented more so than the rest of the fields of their eras and generations.

Today's younger anglers need an * by their name. It is less about who is naturally gifted, and more about who will shell out the money to purchase and learn technology. I am not saying it is right or wrong. With technology, most people are losing their natural instincts.

I wouldnt even consider any anglers today as one of the best of all time because they are literally playing a video game now with the electronics available.

I was a boat official for the Bass Pro Tour for the last two years. I have been with 33 of the 80 anglers on this tour. We can talk records, years of tournament fishing, what ever, but I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt, Kevin Van Dam is head and shoulders above any angler that I went with. His approach and just the way he thinks goes way beyond anything I've ever experienced. He is the definition of Professionalism. He doesn't stop and there is no quit in that dude. I really liked Brian Thrift but I don't think he is in Kevins league. Wheeler is probably the closest to Kevin but not there yet. Just my 2-cents

Just my 2-cents When it all shakes out, I think those 4 will be the standouts in their respective fields. (Clunn and KVD already are) Thrift is almost on the same plane, IMO. I agree Van Dam is far and above the GOAT
