Planning on going to puerto Vallarta next year. El salto is about 6 hour drive from puerto Vallarta. Anyone know of a lake that produces bass like el salto that is closer to puerto Vallarta? If not then anyone know the best time of year to bass fish on el salto ?

I would do a lot of research before I would drive inland from Puerto Vallarta. That’s Jalisco cartel territory and they are even more ruthless than the rest. Might be better to fly in closer to the lake.

I have done the drive from Sinaloa up to Guadalajara, I would NOT do it without a guide. If I was in PV and wanted to bass fish, Lake Chapalla would be where I went, its a couple of hours from PV and near Guadalajara, if you need a contact I connect you with a young guide that might handle transportation and fishing guide services. Chapala throws out some donks, not big numbers but good fish from what I have heard.

That sir is a pretty big bet, if you choose to do so I still would seriously contemplate Lake Chapala Don't forget Federale check points as well, you will drive through a major one leaving Jalisco and entering Sinaloa if you drive to El Salto or Picachos, they may or may not work with the bad guys, it is Mexico after all

Guessing a short flight to Mazatlán from PV and have Speeds people pick you up at the airport. Safer than driving and still get to fish in an amazing place!
See you on the lake and have a great day!

Also go to a restaurant called Casa Isabel. Good food. Great view.
