I'd have left a load of poo on the bank with a cat like that on a topwater!
Nice catch!

You need at least an 11' surf rod with a reel large enough to hold plenty of heavy line. He has been fishing with 13' Daiwa rods. He bought a 15' ugly stick with the big 9 ball bearing Okuma reel. He did not want the 15' but Dave's was out of the shorter Ugly Sticks. We fish the Texas side at the top of the wall and he can hit the center wall with either set up.

TexasBlonde - here's the jigs I used under weighted corks when we fished the dam at night. Could get them at the dam site bait shop but now that it's gone I can't seem to locate the lady that use to make these (I think it was a lady). I need to resupply. I was fishing The Wall with about 10 other guys (no Asians then), 2 of whom were Witchita Falls policemen) one night (can't remember the year, early 90's I'm thinking) and one of the regulars bounced his 4-oz Pencil Popper off the center wall and it landed in the back wash that flowed UP river along the wall. He took 2-3 jerks on it and the water exploded! The fish took immediately into the strong water at the turbine outlets and camped for about 2-3 minutes then down the river she went. Back then the cable was strung off the end of the center wall and across - now it's about 50 yards further downstream I noticed. Anyway, theu guy ran down river with the fish, bowing his rod under the cable, and disappeared onto the rocks below into the dark. Here he came back about 20 minutes later with a striper that was almost 41" - no one had a hand scale but I guaranteed him it would go about 1-lb. per inch and he probably had a 40-lb fish there. Those were the good ol' days.

Artan, they are releasing about 33,000 cfs between the generators, floodgates, and the spillway flow from Shawnee Creek.
dbraune, go to the bank fishing section and read through the post about fishing below the Denison Dam. Lots of great information there about baits and surf rods needed to cast across the current.
