I agree with Marc.

Was once told that high pressure pushed plankton down in water column (and to the bottom) and when pressure is low plankton move throughout water column energizing baitfish and causes bigger fish to become active.

I personally always felt it to be true. For me, low pressure and the bite was better.

Never check barometer or weather. Read this years ago and just fish.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

I've had the opportunity to fish every single day for months on end. All types of weather. All types of bait. I woke up holding a fishing rod.

It was the private Federal lake, behind the Temple VA hospital. The Feds pay Texas to stock it. The government pays untold thousands maintaining it. Catfish, big mouth, carp, perch.

It's never been the day of the month. It's the time of the day that matters the most.

A moving barometric pressure is ok but if you can catch it between 29.50 - 29.90 and 30.00 being the very top you will be catching them. If you are around them and have a productive bait.

I have watched cows for years and point this out to the customers many times. Cows are up very good chance you catch some fish. Cows laying down .... Well you best just go mow the yard. IMO

Just a couple of months ago had one of my lady customers and we had scratched out a few and I told her the Barometric press was killing us cause it was high.

She had heard me say this before. I said if it starts to drop and we get under 30 we will catch them. A hour or so later it dropped 6 points and got us at 29.98 and she hit 6 fish in 10 cast with big fish of the day.

It continued to drop to 29.93 and we had more fish in that hour than all day.

If you are not watching it you are missing a key to catching. I check it several times a day even when I hunt.

Cows laying down, turnaround.
Wind from the East (and north) fish bite least.
Grandpa lived by this,... fish

I have a SUUNTO activity watch that has an altimeter / barometer function on it. While I’m fishing, I will check from time to time. When the barometric pressure is steady, I catch more fish. When it’s climbing, they shut down. When it’s falling, they bite OK. When it’s high, and the sun is out, they get lockjaw. When the barometric pressure is low, the fish bite best.

This is true whether I’m fly fishing or using conventional tackle. I have had these types of watches for decades. The reason I started using them was because of the heart rate monitor. In my younger years, I was a competitive runner & triathlete. The alti / baro function came into play because I had heard of its affect on fishing.

I fully agree that it has some affect on how and when fish feed.

My dad always checked the location of the jet stream. I should have paid more attention. He was one of the best fisherman I ever knew.
I never check barometer. If it is a nice day and I want to fish , I do it.
Living on the lake , my biggest concern is wind. launching from the boat house , and more importantly coming back in , can be
an adventure and hard on equipment. especially doing it by your self at 70 years.

Here's something that'll blow your mind.

Check the PH of the lake water. Different spots. Catch a fish? Check the PH. Don't catch a fish? Check the PH.

Rain has a PH of 4.5-5.0. 7.0 is neutral. 7.1 is alkaline.

PH is monitored in aquariums. Dealing with expensive fish and yet. All these famous Bass guys....never give PH a second thought.
