I saw a lot of ocean sunfish when I was in the USN. Really common in the more tropical areas. Kind of a funny fish since they float along just under the surface on their side so they look like a big frisbee with fins. I never saw one that big of course since it is a record but seeing one 7 or 8 ft across was pretty common. In some parts of the world they harpoon them for food.

They are delicious, if you ever see Opah at a fish market or on the menu at a restaurant, try it.

Opah and ocean sunfish are two different fish.

My mistake, for some reason I thought they had different names, from different regions, but were the same fish.

Never eaten ocean sunfish.
