SO I know y'all that fish as much as I do spend a lot of money on ice. Especially if you buy it at the gas station on the way to the lake. I pay $2.50 to $3.00 a bag and I buy at least two bags every time I go. If I'm gonna keep fish or if I'm gonna keep bait overnight I buy more, if it's hot, I buy more. You see where I'm going with this? I did some math and I think I spend $450 or $500 a year on ice. Just for fishing. That doesn't include what we buy just for household use. So... I bought an Ice Maker. I got it hooked up over the weekend and does it ever make ice. The model I got is in the link below. Ice Maker I put it in the garage next to the deep freeze and while it does a good job of making ice, the bin doesn't seem to be insulated very well because the ice seems to want to melt if left in there. So... I went back to Amazon and got some ice bags. Some 8 pound and some 20 pound. 20 pound ice bags8 pound ice bagsSo now I'll take the ice out of the bin, load it in the bags and put it in the deep freeze. It does take up some room in the freezer but it's still a lot better than buying bag after bag of ice when I go fishing. I will get my money back on the ice maker in less than a year of using it so, I think it will prove out to be a good investment. I know a lot of guys that freeze milk jugs and coke bottles of water. Hey, that works too. I like cubed ice, especially for my drink cooler. The bags should last me a long long time, Especially if I reuse them. Just thought I'd share this in case anybody else was thinking about doing it. Pull the trigger... You'll be glad you did. God Bless & Tight Lines...

Will you post the brand and model number. The link didn't work for me. I was looking at ice makers when I saw your post popped up.

Man you should be in the homemade ice cream business! Talk about going through some ice. My ice machine has a bin that holds 400lbs of ice and will make up to 1000lbs a day. During my busy months I will use 8-10 150qt coolers of ice in a weekend. So Yes, having an ice machine is very convenient for me. I have made over 120 gallons of ice cream the first two weekends of this month alone. Scooped a little over 1400 cups of ice cream in two weekends. Iโm tired boss.

Holy Buckets Shannon! That's a whole lot of cold! 1500 quarts worth of Ice in a weekend. Can you imagine what that would cost if you had to buy it 7 or 8 pounds in a bag? I worked at an ice cream place in Kansas City when I was going to school. I met my wife there. Scooping Ice Cream all day will wear you out. I bet you are tired!

Tim, that's such good thinking. I always have that nagging feeling in the back of my mind when I buy ice that I'm throwing away money. I guess I never thought enough of it to put pen and paper to it. I'm ordering one right now. I usually get 2 bags almost every time we fish which, just like you, is A LOT! Thanks for bringing that to everyone's attention. Shannon, I've wondered numerous times how much ice cream you do in a weekend. That's incredible! I couldn't do what you do, because I would end up weighing as much as the trailer! I mean, that would be like giving a key to the pharmacy to a drug addict! I'm sure you're gonna tell me that it gets old after awhile and you stop eating it so much, but I worked at a Taco Bell when I was a kid for well over a year and a half and I ate tacos twice a day and still would if my health would allow it! Kudos to your business success!

Oct- Dec are my busiest 3 months at Canton. Better weather brings more people out. Believe it or not , July and August are my slowest months there. Reason being is because there are hardly any people. Nobody wants to walk around all day in 100 degree weather. It doesnโt matter what you are selling if people arenโt there to buy it. What saves July for me is that I usually do the fireworks show in Kilgore. I will sell between 250-300 cups there in 4 hrs.But yeah, sometimes it takes 2-3 days after an event for my hands to get back to working correctly.

Plus, I make 5 gallons at a time and donโt wanna get stuck with some oddball flavor that would take months to sell. One that is not listed on my trailer is Dreamsicle. Half orange sherbet and half vanilla. I sell a lot of that flavor also. Strawberry is my #1 seller.

Here is a guy at an antique show that liked the vanilla so much that he went and bought a pitcher from one of the vendors , went and washed it out and had me fill it up.

A homemade Vanilla Root Beer Float. Now we're talkin! Shannon, funny ice cream story. When I was working at that ice cream parlor in KC while I was in college, they came up with a flavor called Royal Blueberry, named for the baseball Royals. Well it was a really bright blue color sherbert and it turns out the dye they used stuck with you. In fact, people started calling the newspapers and complaining that they were peeing blue. One guy even took pictures of his dog peeing in the snow after eating some and there were little blue spots all over his back yard! That was the end of Royal Blueberry...
You can't make this stuff up!
