I like Vicious yellow too. If I'm fishing trees, I use 10lb PP.

I try to get away with as light of a line as possible. I use 2-4 lb line when fishing bridge columns because you never get hung up. I move it up to 10lb braid when fishing trees or brush piles. Being able to straighten the hook to get my jig back is a huge time saver. I use hi-vis mono 4-6lb line when shooting docks or slip corking. For the most part I use mono when casting and braid when fishing vertically.

try some P LINE 6 pound test.. made in Japan with special fibers. small diameter, very strong,. I also soak any line I buy in a bucket of water for a few days. many spools of line can sit in warehouses and on shelves for a long time, and they can dry out. you will see a big difference after soaking,, I also pre stretch my line,, after spooling, hook one end to the fence, walk out abt 30 to 50 yards and put tension on it for 20 to 30 seconds.,, keep doing this until when you let slack in the line it lays down with no curls in it.
also never leave your reels in direct sunlight for storage. the uv rays from the sun can ruin any line in just a few days.
Mr Crappie hi vis is not the best line, but its good line and consistant.. it does not behave well for me in wintertime , it gets alot of memory and gets hard to manage. for most of the year its fine . the P LINE handles better in cold temps and has a smaller diameter per lb test. theres ALOT of choices when it comes to fishing line nowdays,., try different ones and see what u like.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

P LINE flouroclear flourocarbon coated.. they have it in 5 lb test too..
I like a small diameter clear line in cold water as it has been scientifically proven that crappie eyesight improves in cold water for some reason. with the bite being very finnicky in wintertime unless you time thier feed schedule perfectly, I want every edge I can get..

Crappie have good eyesight in all scenarios, hence why I usually use straight fluorocarbon leaders. I just tie a leader on because if I find myself using a jig and bobber or even a minnow and bobber in an ultra clear river, mono doesn’t sink like fluorocarbon does, on top of that, fluorocarbon tends to be quite expensive. I personally like vanish 4lb for my leaders.

P Line flouro is abt 11 to 13 bucks for 300 yards.. using small spinning reels I can load several reels with it.. with the fishing line being the critical connection between myself and the fish, I want the best I can get.
folks will spend 30 to 70 bucks on a nice reel., 40 to 80 bucks on a nice rod, but scoff at putting 13.00 line on it.
if cost is an issue, what I used to do was strip off abt half of the old line from a spinning reel, then tie the new line onto the old, and reel on as much as I needed. in most crappie fishing situations all you need is 20 or 40 feet of line..
if your casting a 1/16 or 1/8th oz jig, your not going to be able to cast very far anyway. I do some casting in the spring, and fall, but most of the year its a straight vertical presentation or a lob out, pendulum swing presentation.
theres hundreds of options out there when it comes to fishing line and the important thing is to find one you have confidence in and stick with it, so you know what to expect out of it.

Have used 6#/2lb diameter braid casting and under a float. No problem catching fish as long as the lures are pf the right size, shape and action that fish focus on.

I'm trying what Hayden Jeffries has been doing and have become a big fan. Full spool of clear 15 lb. Fluorocarbon and have become a fan..."It fishes very similar to braid, No stretch".

Myth, it stretches more then you think.

I was quoting Hayden Jeffries...I find it not to be an issue and my line performs better than braid. To each his own...

I prefer floro to braid! Less tangles on fhe Rod tip and I break off a lot less than braid for some reason. Have tried a lot of braids and still haven’t found one I like. I use 12lb for the most part. Braid cost us some money last year for sure. With that said Clay used braid almost exclusively! roflmao

I do HATE the tangles that come with braid but I love the sensitivity and lack of stretch when swinging a bigger fish in the boat. How is floro with sensitivity and stretch ?

Braid has less stretch and more sensitivity fo sure but it also gets stuck on everything. Floro to me is a nice compromise between braid and mono
