Ill say this about living that far north. Long winters suck ! Depressing even ! Summers are awesome though. Living in Maine the winters are from early November until early May. I've seen heavy snow in late April. Sux going to the store, having to run errands, being cooped up for extended periods. I could live in Maine from May until end of Sept but outside of this would be a pretty hard NO ! I'd think W. Mich is colder longer.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

Try to head to Florida around 2am shed a layer in Ga, 50 miles in Fla? I’m buying a place down here this week! Get to destination, settle in, 50* and solid sheets of rain for next 7 days.
I prefer peace. But if trouble must come let it come in my time. So that my children may live in peace

People move from one state to another all the time. Aside from the weather, it's not a big deal. You will not have to learn another language or learn the metric system in Michigan. It's mostly the same.

I only own two light weight jackets. My in-laws live just across the Maine border with Canada. FIL already slipped on ice, fell and hurt his shoulder. We're going up there in 2 weeks (Can. border opened from COVID restrictions) and I'm kinda dreading it just because I'm not ready to be uncomfortably chilled. Flying into Bangor and driving into Can.. My fishing buddy's Skeeter on Nov. 29. At least the lake isn't frozen over yet. It takes some getting used to.

I think each person would see it differently. I hated it for several years. But I believe I was brought here for a reason. My path was supposed to cross with my wife's. I believe God knew I was the one who could handle this horrible situation. Once I really realized that and accepted it as what was to be. It doesn't bother me to be here. So my perspective will be completely different than anyone else's. Do I still miss The Republic of Texas? Absolutely. But I'm needed here, and thus is where I will be until I'm not needed anymore. Or I leave this world.

Moved back from Montana 18 months ago. Don't take it personal but I wish I had never left. I lived in a town, pop.3900, that had two grocery stores. Pharmacy was in the grocery store. Walmart was 100 miles away. In a small town everything is close. It was perfect!! Sounds like heaven!
