We moved to Montgomery ~6 years ago. It was much more "small town" when we got here. It doesn't have that feeling now.

Moved to Wyoming 35 years ago, don't miss Texas except for the family and hog hunting. Winters can be brutal but summers are nice, all 3 months if it.
We don't have chiggers or [censored] roaches here. Hunting is great and fishing as well.

Crime is lower where we are, have to drive for some necessities though.
Town reminds me of the Texas town I grew up in back in the day, now it's the metro mess.

Folks are nice, more reserved and pretty independent.
Winters aren't like they were when we moved up, months of feet of snow on the ground. Now more cold with less snow, wind always blows though.

Don't miss the Texas heat at all, I can't take it now. Takes getting used to not have a/c though, many homes do not up here. All the older homes do not have a/c.

Main draw up here was the hunting and it has not disappointed. We have made good friends with a rancher and work for him now and hunt his land. We have public land hunting too 10 minutes from the house. Great hunting to be had on the public lands and easy access. The number of species we can hunt in Wyoming is awesome and all can be done on public lands, DIY. No need for a lease thankfully.

We have pretty high house taxes and vehicle registration. Pay is generally lower up here and cost of living can be high depending on your town. There are trade offs but worth it to us.

So why is it Californians and others are moving here in droves? Go ahead and make more room.

How can it be, when we are being infested with outsiders. Open border, open state lines, can’t exactly keep people out.

They used to hunt coons off mules and jumped them over fences around Emory. Those east Texas Emory girls that was raised going on those coon hunts were some tough young gals. They’d dip snuff and could stand flat footed and pee over the top wire of a barb wire fence.

Pretty much the same here when I moved to Alabama 8 years ago. 1 hour east of me, I have 70,000 acres of public hunting for the price of $45 a year. 30 minutes south, I am on the Tennessee River.

Looking at New Bern, NC right now. Something on the coast where I can have 4 moderate seasons. Property taxes are way too high in Texas and every session they promise to do something but don't. There I'm looking at $1,300 property tax on a $300k house. If/when I retire property taxes will be something I will want to reduce greatly over what I pay in Texas.

I will always live in Texas. Grew up in Boerne back in the 70's and still have family in Comfort. Ideally when I am ready to retire I would like to move back to the hill country.

Born and raised in Dallas. I have no intentions of moving back to Texas. I love Texas, but it’s going downhill.

I might like to move somewhere out of Texas some day. But I'm running out of time. Like a lot of Texans, when I was young the lure of the mountains was alive. But that cold. There's a little bit of everything in Texas. Guess I'll stay and visit some places in my spare time.

If I go anywhere, it will be back across the red river.
