Children under 13 years of age must wear a personal flotation device on a vessel under 26 feet in length while underway. Anchored is not underway and spot lock is not anchored. Carry on.
"Slow ahead." I can go slow ahead. Come on down here and chum some of this [censored].

Just wondering if being spot locked on a spot qualified as being at anchor. I had the grandbaby out fishing and she wanted to take off her life vest. I was spot locked and was just wondering what a game warden might say about it being considered at anchor. I know I could just call to find out, but just wondering what everyone else thought. Best to keep the life jackets on those grandkids all the time regardless of laws.

They make some very comfortable kid vest for summer and winter

I was surprised this thread is still being talked about...amazing how many people discuss whether or not to have a life vest on kids while on a boat and try to justify not wearing one by saying anchored or not......very confusing why people would gamble/risk not having a vest on kids while on the water.........why people do.....easy to find a reason not to...don't think it would be easy to explain why a child drowned and why an adult drown trying to save them.....
See how you spin that story.....

Pretty sure you're still required to have an anchor on board even with that trolling motor, so even though you are supposed to be locked on that spot, you aren't anchored. Anchors aren’t ever required. Understood, but to be considered anchored you'd need one.

Here is my take on life jackets. They freaking save lives! I am a dang good swimmer but I wear mine when ever I am running the boat or if the lake is rough. Stuff happens. That's why they are called accidents. Now kids are another thing all together. If kids are on my boat, everyone on board will be wearing a life jacket from start to finish. Actions are so much louder than words. And I can't imagine the grief an adult would have to deal with if a child on their boat ever drowned and didn't have a life vest on. There is no way you could ever justify such a terrible tragedy! That's just me and my 2 cents.
