Same ol [censored]. Don't do stupid stuff and you're likely no more in harms way than in most places in the U.S.

I agree, with the " probably as safe as a lot of places in the U.S." however in the U.S. I potentially, have the ability, to defend myself. In Mexico, getting caught, with the ability to defend yourself, will get you 30+ years.

I've been all over the US and the number of times that I felt unsafe, I can count on my one hand. Every time that I go to Mexico the hairs stand up on backnof my neck. No way is it the same as here

This^^^

I've traveled all over Mexico and never felt threatened. Been to Oaxaca, Mexico City, all over the Yucatan and down to Xcalak, Guanajuato, Leon, San Mateo Del Mar, the Guatemalan border, many, many Myan and Aztec ruins, all over the West Coast, and the worst thing that ever happened to me was a gas pumper trying to rip me off for an extra $15.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

I didn't know there were still people in Mexico. I thought they all crossed our border after Brandon was elected?

Last two trips to Cancun they had a shooting on the beach in he hotel zone, it was drug terrority related, once tourist got shot by accident. The first incident was in June, they rolled up on jet skis and started shooting. Here was the shooting my first trip back in June 2021

Wife and I cruising there for our 30th leaving Saturday. 1st cruise ever, 3rd time to Mexico in the last 5 years. This will be second time to Quintana Roo and once to Picachos, no issues so far. We are just one couple though and we don't look for trouble, drink alcohol, or stay out late. We do tourist things in tourist places minding our own business. We have felt and I am sure will feel perfectly secure in Mexico. Now when she made me go to NYC at Christmas time a few years back, that was another story...

See you on the lake and have a great day!

Do you seriously think the NY Times makes up stories about shootings in Mexico? Really? Something that is that easy to verify.

I’ve been many times in the past and it was once a great place to visit
Mexico is now a s—-show, NO WAY will we be going back

You used to be safe if you stayed at the resorts…that’s not even safe anymore
The cartels have ruined that country…

We were in Cabo San Lucas in April. One of our taxi drivers was a college-educated young man, from Central Mexico. His family had an avocado farm there for over 100 years. The cartel came in, told the family that they were taking the farm, and they could leave or die. So, he and his family moved to Cabo. He bought a nice Chevy Suburban, and they're alive, and he's driving tourists around. Sad, but that's the way it is there, and no political regime seems to be able to change it.
I bought a new St.Croix rod this year, made in Fresnillo, MX. Great rod, by the way. Two cartels are fighting over that state, Zacatecas, which has always been a mining center. I'm certain that St. Croix is having to pay the cartel to be in business in Fresnillos. Sad, but that's the way it is. The cartels kill enough people to make the others comply. It works.
I lived on my boat in Venezuela for a year in '91 & '92. Never had a problem. I wouldn't even visit there now. The world has changed, not for the better. IslandJim
